Need help here guys. I had a coolant hose rupture on me and I can't find a description of it anywhere. It is the hose that comes out of the crack pipe front and goes out, then turns 180 degrees and comes back under the crack pipe. I think it is attached to the oil cooler. The Bentley only lists the oil cooler hose for the BDF engine that goes in above the crack pipe. (Item # 15 on page 446). The other hose is there but has no number or description. Help please.

I pulled the hose off and ordered one from VW. I didn't go in so I had to describe it's location so I hope he ordered the right one. It is the only one going from the crack pipe to the oil cooler so it shouldn't be too hard for the parts guy to get it right. I am going to replace all the steel lines running under the rad with rubber while I have everything off. They are really corroded and will be leaking soon too. Just did the crack pipe, thermostat, and thermostat housing last summer so all that should last a while longer.

When I ordered the oil cooler hoses for the last 2.8l VR6 AFP engine that I worked on I noticed ETKA had the part numbers reversed between the two hoses at the oil cooler. Maybe ETKA has corrected the error now. I replaced all the metal coolant pipes to the secondary radiator as they were very rusty. I used OEM pipes and they were not cheap.

Yup, ETKA is still backwards. I brought the hose just in case but they ordered the wrong one in for me. The guy showed me the diagram and the one he ordered was the right one according to the diagram. I told him straight out, "buddy if I didn't remove this myself I wouldn't argue with you but I DID take it off myself so I know exactly where it came from. Fix your parts system please." So now I need to wait for tomorrow.

Getting VW to admit they are wrong is not easy-- a friend of mine was the US VW service engineering director at the VW tech center in Auburn Hills, MI. He had stories about VW Wolfsburg's stubbornness
to acknowledge problems that I can ascribe only to a "Stalingrad-like" mentality.
