I'd start by just making sure you clean the battery terminals and tighten the battery terminals down. It sounds like maybe you've got a weak connection at the battery, or a bad/loose/corroded ground (underneath the battery)

Not even sure how to explain what's going on so I'll just give it a go here. The car has been sitting in the garage most of the summer, but I try to start it every once in a while to let her run a bit. Now here's the weird part. Every once in a while when I go to start it the flashers come on, and the car will not start. I get full power to all electrical equipment, but nothing at the starter. I would normally think the starter would be the culprit, but the flashers coming on makes me think it's omewhere in the ignition curcuit. Has anyone ever had this issue and figured it out, because I sure as hell can't. The other weird thing is that if I unhook the battery for a few minutes, and put the terminals back on the car will fire right up. Someone please help.
Oh and pics for the help.

Dude it's the alarm/imoblizer the horn should be honking too.
I had a 92 Passat haunted by this once in a while. No rhyme or reason: it would just start happening and disconnecting the battery was the only way to reset.

Duh...The alarm module didn't cross my mind either. Yeah, I've heard of the alarm modules doing exactly that. Replace or bypass it. There is a thread in here or the MK3 forums on how to "disable" or "bypass" the alarm module.

did you bypass it the vw way? i saw a guy in the passat forums or on a build thread here that had a small wireharness fire behind the fusebox AFTER he bypassed the alarm.

Used this.

But instead of jumping the two wires I cut the two fat wires, soldered them together, and heat shrinked them. We'll see what happens when I go to start the car today.
