Search this forum and also the 2.8l VR6 forum for Do It Yourself tutorials (there is an excellent one on the 12V 2.8l VR6 forum). The 24V 2.8l and 12V 2.8l VR6 engines use this same lower chain configuration. Yes, you can use a special camshaft locking tool to hold the camshafts in the correct position during the setting of the correct timing of the crankshaft and intermediate shaft. I bought mine from a VW dealer but the tool can be bought on the internet.
