My golf had aa serious bogging/jumping problem. It also had a bad cluster which I'm beginning to think are related. When I removed the cluster and drove around with no cluster at all, the car drove perfectly fine and didn't buck. When I replaced the cluster with a new one the bucking came back immediately. I'm considering a bad speed sensor???

On a 1994, the cluster shouldn't affect the drivability of the car...

Well that doesn't help, because it does affect it. When its plugged in, gauges jump a nd car loses power and bucks.

I find it hard to believe the cluster is causing a running issue. If the cluster is bad anyway, swap it out with a known good unit and re-test.
