Anybody in the Orland, Tinley Park IL area that can scan for air bag code?

The air bag indicator on my dash came on and stays lit. I tried taking it to AutoZone
but the tech was apprehensive about reading the codes for an air bag. He mentioned
that some VDub air bags (he mentioned 2001) have deployed when scanned.

If someone knows about false triggering when scanned maybe they could enlighten me. I did a search but found nothing about this happening to individuals but a check of the VAG ROSS site does mention 2001 issues (at least the potential for concern).
