Where is the rain sensor? Just curious. I searched, and I see how to turn it on, but not where it was really located.

    Thanks,

Box-shaped object at the base of the rear-view mirror, where the mirror attaches to the windshield.

You can see it on this video where the man pours water on the windshield, from the water bottle, directly in line with the sensor.

Speaking of this rain sensor.... what does the car have to see to close the windows and sun roof? I had a guy activate this for me and he claimed that REAL rain has to be present to activate this.... but here is this video showing just H2O being poured out of the jug....

I can't get mine to do that! Can I assume he "forgot" something?

If I remember correctly the sensor uses infrared light and it is measuring the amount of light that comes back to it. Raindrops will scatter the light and the sensor can detect that less infrared light is coming back to the sensor...it's raining.

The same sensor is used for the automatic headlights.

Well, the auto headlights work....looks like a programming error. Can anyone give me exact steps so I can go back to my guy and let him know what he did wrong? Appreciate it!

With windows and sunroof open, stop the engine, get out of the car and close it. Pour some water at the sensor and see what happen.

I haven't tested mine yet, but I think I read somewhere the doors have to be closed and locked for the windows/sunroof autoclose to work.

Yes, the car has to be locked for the rain closure to be active.

Read the instructions in the companion article to my video:
http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b...ng-feature.htm There's even screenshots. If you have an SEL Premim, even the coding may be the same.

Only other 'trick'.... Wait. The BCM has to go to sleep after hitting lock. One-three minutes then try to spray water over the top of the sensor again.

Ummmm, don't know if it was that long I waited or not..... just went out and opened sunroof and windows. Will wait 5 minutes and see.......

Nope - that didn't work either. Anyway, we're gonna check the install again. He's coming by with the cable later this evening or tomorrow.

He missed checking a box. All's well now. VW needs to be teaching their dealers what this car will do!

Confirm that rain-closing works on a 2013 TDI SEL. I had a real-world experience today leaving the sunroof open, then a thunder storm came. I was a little worried to be frank, until I walked out to the car and the sunroof was closed! The thing is, after I started the engine, the rain-sensing wiper did not respond to rain as it used to. I had to cycle the start-stop to reactivate the rain-sensing wiper.

I can't get it to work on mine. When I go into 09, CECM, Coding, the dropbox that is supposed to let me select RLS is greyed out and wont let me go to the RLS (rain light sensor). I wonder if mine has one?

Anyone else have luck with this on a 2013?

Doors unlocked? Without doors unlocked you can only talk to some but not all modules.

Good question, went back and verified all doors were unlocked. It did however not allow access to 09 at all with the doors locked. No luck on this tip though. Thanks for trying.
