A few months ago the Airbag light came on. The VAG-COM scan shows no error codes and it says that it is unable to communicate with the airbag control module. I am unable to find any other information. Any suggestions before a trip to the dealership?

Since you're not going to show us the auto scan, what could we possibly suggest except take it to the dealer?

    Yep:

Post the whole scan here so we can see what this car is made of. Are we supposed to simply guess what car, engine, and modules you've got?

The program said that it was unable to run the airbag diagnostic (15) because it was unable to communicate.

Whats the actual bahvior of the airbag light when you switch the ignition on? Does it do ON-OFF-ON or does go straight to ON? Is there an aftermarket radio installed?

Find an independent VW/Audi specialist and ask 'em for a quote, this seems to be "slightly" on the high side...

Don't go there! You are talking about a safety feature which in the end is supposed to save your life. I for my self are not willing to take chances on that, neither does VW permit such repairs or reprogramming.

OK, Thanks. I find strange that the thing just stopped working on its own...

  16. 08-10-2012 07:43 AM #16
It is more likely it has failed due to water ingress.

I would take the airbag module out of the car and apart. Inspect for water damage, with a witness, which can authenticate this in writing if need be.

    If it contains it.

Take a picture, submit a claim to VW to fix it for free, for water ingress.
These cars are covered for everything on floor such as carpets harness etc.

    Hope that helps.

I second the wizard on this one.

Be advised : Some airbag modules in the cars now, are designed for up to 3 deploys and it depends on the accident. If the diagnostics can clear the module through normal means, its OK to reuse.

I am going to take it out and see if there is evidence of water intrusion. If there isn't, Any recommendations for a store that sells the airbag control modules.

Thanks, Jack. Do you carry the Airbag Control Module for a 2001 eurovan? I didn't see it on the ebay store.
