Okay I am not 100% if the MMI 3G is that much better, so let me know if this isn't a good idea...
Has anyone swapped out the RNS-E from a 2012 TT-RS for a MMI 3G head unit? The RNS-E is the only disappointment that I have with my car. I had mostly researched the S4's before buying the TT-RS and had read how the S4's head unit had advanced graphics and all the latest features. I assumed that the TT-RS came with the same head unit, so was quite surprised to find that TT-RS came with such older tech than the S4.
In particular, the lack of A2DP music streaming is a bummer. Even my 2012 Mustang GT came with that feature, integration with Pandora, and other apps even with the middle range stereo option (no navigation). Handsfree calling works okay with the current RNS-E head unit now that I upgraded to a new Samsung Galaxy S3, so that at least makes it livable while I come up with something better.
If the MMI 3G isn't an option I might consider aftermarket units, but it would have to provide an OEM level integration with full use of the steering wheel controls and FIS. Another idea that I had was one of the add on FISCON bluetooth interfaces. That may at least solve the A2DP issue if it doesn't cause issues with the regular hands free usage, factory mic, etc.
If anyone has any good links, references, ideas, etc. I would be much appreciated.
