no retract MkIV rear calipers

I have run into this problem years ago, and do not remember the solution. Had to do pads on Mamma's '03 MkIV TDI, and I can NOT get the pistons to wind back in. If I go backwards, they will IMMEDIATELY wind out, but when I switch the reatchet and try to retract, they just sit there where I stopped and spin around.

Kind of a panic as I have to leave for the bush tomorrow and she needs her car.

Any suggestions?

Apply pressure while turning?

My winder is hand fed, and I think that might be the problem: need more pressure to stop the adjusting mechanism inside from spinning that direction.

OK, if anyone is interested: The deal is that you need to push back a wee bit of fluid before whatever is inside contacts whatever holds the thread still for clockwise loading, THEN it winds in very easily. Now I remember looking at the tool long ago and not liking the idea of continually putting pressure on the threads.

Push in as much as it'll take... 1/8" prolly.

Turn fully 1-2 times, take up slack (push again)

Repeat as needed.

Auto Zone or other parts stores may have the tool for rental. I work in an undercar shop and have used mine i dont know how many times with no problem. Just slowly put the pressure on it. Like someone else said turn a little add pressure, and keep doing that. As long as they turn your good. Just watch the boots that they dont twist on the piistons and rip
