I got the car to crank. Wiring is coming together. My to do list is still rediculous though!

Now to see if anyone is actually reading this... or just looking at the pictures.

    I NEED HELP-

In my haste to clean up the wiring I manage to cut a couple connectors that I shouldn't have. I chopped off the MAF connector and the coil? connector. I left enough wiring that I could reconnect anything I was dumb enough to cut, but I dont know where to reconnect them.

My other question is for 020 trans fluid. Is the Lucas 80w-90 a good choice. I looked at the fluids forever and was trying to decide which to go with! It says it exceeds the requirements for GL-4 rated fluids.

And last, relay 109 off the MKIII fuse panel is missing. I have checked around at the junk yards and at EPR and can't find one. Anyone have any ideas?

what do u mean u dont know where to reconnect them? do u mean to tuck/hide the wiring?

i would use 75w90 synthetic thats what it lists on alldata. im running mobile 1 right now, its the only brand i could find in my town lol.

are u running a ODBI or ODBII harness/fusebox? i cant remember what 109 relay is off the top of my head... but if its the heated oxygen sensor relay ODBII does not use one.

Meaning I am not sure if they go to the engine connection, back of fuse panel, or into the ECU. I have cut wires at all three places. And I just want to make sure I get it right. I assume that if I match the color for the wire then I am good. But a few of the wire are duplicated throughout the harness.

Yeah my choices for the GL-4 were Chevron, and Lucas

My harness is OBD1. In this picture you can see it is the top left relay.

    Thanks for helping

It doesn't really matter as long as its gear oil. In owning a watercooled almost continuously since 93, I have had one lubrication related failure which is where I toasted 5th in the first 3 weeks of owning my mk2... and it was because the tranny was almost dry...
I use plain old Coastal 75-90 or whatever it is from autozone. Up north where the temps get real cold different fluids can make it a pain in the ass to get into gear, but down here it doesn't seem to matter...

    Erik,
On the maf you got 4 wires
Pin 1, brown/black goes to ground.
Pin 2, brown/red goes to ecu pin 16.
Pin 3, red/blue, gets 12v from the ecu relay. Other things that get power from that are evap canister purge, egr regulator, and some oxygen sensor control module....no clue where that is located but it feed power to your o2 sensor heater circuit....
Pin 4, red, goes to the ecu pin 17...

That o2 module, its confusing to me... its got 4 wires...
Pin 2, red / yellow goes to fuse box pin g1/8. That track also sends power to the fuel pump....
Pin 6, that's the one I discussed with the maf.
Pin 4, white, goes to ecu pin 28.
Pin 8, red/white, goes to one of the white wires on your o2 sensor. The other white wire on your o2 goes to ground.
The black wire on the o2 sensor at pin 4 connects white wire that goes to pin 20 at the ecu.
The grey wire on the o2 sensor that should be on pin 3 on the o2 harness connects to a yellow wire that goes to pin 42 on the ecu harness.

Damn that's alot of typing on a phone. Lol...

Alright, so this project has not been put on hold, just busy as hell coming into the holiday season! However, the weds before thanksiving, I was lucky enough to have my daily driver totaled. At first I was like , but then after the adjuster called with the price they were gonna give me for it I was like !!

    So OFF IT WENT-

This though lit a little fire under my butt to get my car running! So I started working out the cooling system first. I wanted a simpler easy system, so here is what I came up with!

Here are all the parts for the system-

    And here it is installed-

Then I met up with a local guy this morning and picked up some new seats to replace my most AWESOME racing seats!

Now I only need to figure out the tube to screw on the oil filter. Since I eliminated the oil cooler, what do I do about that pipe? Do I just cut it down, is that ok?

Thanks but she's in someone elses hands now... hard to let it go!

The piping is 1/8" wall tubing, 1.25" OD

The car is gone. After my MKIV got totaled, I needed a 4 door vehicle for my family. So I got an offer to trade my incomplete rabbit for a MKII Jetta GLI running a 2.0 16v. So sadly, off she went! (I drove it first and she ripped!)

My new linup of cars in the driveway, I still have the caddy so I am not out of the MKI game Since the Jetta is drving and only needs little stuff to make it right, the Caddy is next in line to be on the road

Be on the lookout for the Caddy Build

Oh man. I cant believe you got rid of her!!!!
But you gotta do what you gotta do.
Now i have a question of 50 for you.
I am getting my 83 jetta project on thursday jan 3rd
I want to do an aba swap. How hard was the swap?
Wiring and all the other poop.

  14. 12-29-2012 08:57 PM #49
The swap was not difficult. The hardest part for me was just understanding the wiring by reading the ABA swap thread. Once it clicked though, it was a piece of cake.

It took about 3 days for the wiring to make sense in my brain though. haha

The coolant lines were the other PIA... which is why I came up with my own coolant set up.
