$1200 isn't much money in the big picture. Personally, I would stay out of it.

So I just got an email informing me of a 14 million dollar class action suit against the company I work for. The question is... Do I get involved? I'm guessing there would be a $1200+ payout, or keep out of it. I plan on retiring one day from this company. So, I don't want to have any negative thoughts towards me in the event of a promotion or such, even though I'm sure that would he illegal. Any thoughts?

Most people being sued want people as part of the class action lawsuit. It limits the damages of the company being sued. To opt out of the lawsuit means you can sue the company on your own, or be part of another class action lawsuit. Usually there's a disclaimer saying you'll not be part of another one, if you are part of the original.

Then maybe the best thing to do is ask your employer if they would like you to sue them. If they say yes, then join the class action.

I assume prior to the notification you didnt know what the complaint was about and it does not sound like you have any issues with the company.
By accepting any payout from this you may automatically give up certain rights you may not even be aware of. For 1200 I wouldnt spend time looking into it.
