The moulding on the rocker panel is separating from the body (2004 Jetta GLI 1.8T). Worse comes to worse, I can go back to the shop that f'ed it up and have them fix it (should be under warranty), but I'd prefer to try and do this myself. Not much to go on with Bentley's. Is it possible to peel the rest of the moulding off without needing to repaint? That's the deal breaker right there. The manual shows the use of a garote. That looks like it won't be pleasant. If I can remove without needing paint, what kind of adhesive do I need to put back on? What will safely remove an old adhesive residue?

I'd go back to the shop first, if it is their fault. Worse comes to worse, they can't fix it and you tell them you'll take it to a shop that can and have them pay for it. Once you mess with it, they would probably void any warranty you have with them. If you still want to fix it, could you post a picture of the problem? Helps to see the problem before giving DIY advice.
