Few questions about my 1987 Cabriolet....

Would like to remove the front and rear bumper. I want to keep the stock turn signals but they are mounted to the bumper. Any idea where I could mount them? Has anyone out there done this?

The tilt knob for the back of my drivers side seat seems to be stripped. Is this an easy fix?

Looking for a good quality touch up paint in a rattle can and in a small brush. Paint code is LA7Y.
    Any brand/distributor recommendations?

Also looking for the cheapest prices on new oem parts for my car. Any ideas?

    Thanks for your time!

For the bumper situation, most people will tell you not to take them off. And they are right, but some of us are willing to take the risk of not having them.

For my blinkers/running lights I made some brackets and mounted them behind the two lower grilles. However I have no A/C so with out the condenser it freed up a decent amount of space between the rad and the two little grilles. If you still have your A/C this wont work. But it's quite neat because they are hidden until you turn them on.

My previous set up was two 1990 Jeep Wrangler blinker housings and some new sockets to fit them and I put them right in the holes for my bumpers. I had to shave the edges of the lights down a bit, but once I did that there was no issues getting the housing in and out to change bulbs. And they fit nicely in those holes, they take up nearly the whole space.

But I like my new setup behind the grilles better much much cleaner.

Also you can buy 7" round lights with blinkers in them like this:

    Or

And for good oem parts I would say
    http://stores.ebay.com/Mk1-Autohaus
    and
    http://www.germanautoparts.com/

I usually buy from these two places. They are both reasonably priced, but can be more expensive at times. Especially MK1 Autohaus. It's worth it though because the parts you get are the real deal for the most part. At least that's what I've found so far.

Hey look, the umpteentmillionth person to want to "be original" and take the bumpers off of their old "ratted out" MK1.

Don't forgrt to stickerbomb a fender or something with a bunch of "eurosomethinoranother" decals from places you've never done or will do business with.

No problem man. But I'm not gonna lie, backinthegame is right... I mean A LOT of people take their bumpers off because it's "trendy" and they want their rabbits and cabbys to be all ratty and then they put some stupid stickers on the corner of the window about being low/slammed and daily driven or something about being european.. I HATE those people. And on top of all of that, it is dumb to take them off, but I feel if you're willing to deal with the potential consequences then go for it.

I did it not because it's "trendy", but simply because it's my preference. I think the cars look better without them. I'm also willing to deal with anything that happens, because I took my bumpers off fully aware that it's not the greatest choice. But don't get me wrong, there are easily hundreds of cars I've seen with bumpers that I would die for, and I would leave the bumpers on.

But hey it's your car, do with it what you please. I did, I'm happy with it, and I can say I have a fairly clean Rabbit Convertible with no stupid stickers and with no bumpers.

Not to mention that in most states in America it is illegal to drive a car without a bumper. Extremely illegal here in Florida.
