What does Mk5-Mk6 VWs Mean?

So i've been looking around for parts here and there for my 05 Gli Jetta and was just curious what all the mk5 mk6 means. I am guessing the numbers mean the year but what does the mk stand for?

it's mk for Mark , because the MK5 are the 5th generation of golf or jettas
