Thread: FS - 1983 Rabbit Turbo Diesel

  1. 08-06-2012 06:27 PM #1
K so I bought this car and I think I need more room. I love driving it and it's a fun little beast. I didn't realize I would need more a bigger car so bad. So I am putting out the feelers to see what happens. Not super motivated to sell cause I drive it daily.

I live in Oklahoma City, FYI.

Also I'm looking for a 2000-2005 TDI Jetta Wagon 5-Speed if you know anyone or want to trade.

I just got a pulley on the timing belt replaced and it's running like a top once again.

Here is what the previous owner had posted about the car back in 2011 since I am a bit of a newbie:

83 Rabbit, originally a 1.6l naturally aspirated diesel Rabbit.
This has been my daily drive for ten years. The list of parts is long (mostly mechanical) I will cover the highlights but I’m missing many. I have receipts on most of the parts. It runs like a scalded ape and still returns a solid 40mpg.

    Under the hood:
Engine is a Europe import GTD 1.6l turbo IDI. Engine code SB rated at 79bhp.
10mm injection pump, rebuilt by Bosch authorized rebuilder here in the city
    Front mount intercooler
2” mandrel intake piping, silicone connectors, ss t-band clamps
    2- 1/2” mandrel exhaust, ss v-band connectors
Oil cooler, custom but a very clean install
KKK K14 oil/coolant cooled turbo, correctly wired with the thermo timed coolant pump
    Missing linkz short shift linkage
Heim joint shift arm (I can’t remember the guy who was big on selling these and I can’t find the receipt on this one)
Transmission is the GL 4spd E that was original to the naturally aspirated engine, I have an FF trans that goes with the sale
    Tons of powder coated metal
Wiring could be tidied up to improve the appearance

    Interior:
    Cloth reupholstered 2yrs ago
Custom rear side cards, flush mounted 6X9 three way Blaupunkt speakers
All wiring still in place, I have just removed the amp and sub
    Headliner new last month
Custom center console, not the cleanest but it accomplished what I wanted
More gauges than needed, I never hooked them up when I replaced the engine but the wiring is there.
Dynamat from the rear seats back, not quite complete, where I ran out is easy access though to finish.
My recovering attempts over the rear wheel wells didn’t hold
    Carpet is soiled

    Suspension:
    H&R lowering springs
    Bilstein sport shocks

Beyond what the original owner posted I can say this is a sweet little diesel and it is fun to drive. I have the A/C if you want to install it but you will need to reconfigure the intercooler to do so. I also still have most receipts for the past work and parts, all from previous owner. I'm asking $4500.

For serious interest please email me at mr.dylanb@gmail.com for offers or if you want to see it. I can also take more pictures if needed
