Thread: Running rough

  1. 08-07-2012 01:21 PM #1
I just bought a 1990 vw cab conv with 78,000 miles the car is in good shape. On the way home it was running rough so I replaced, plugs, plug wires, cap and still did not help. I could not fund a vacume leak and air gilt was changed. So I took a chance and got a new mass air flow, still did not help. I'm out of ideas? Anyone?

First suspects are weak fuel pressure and a torn rubber part/hose/line letting air in...or even an air leak thru the brass idle air screw on the back side of the throttle body.

does it run better hot? cold? look at the exhaust while its running. blue color? black color?

    need more clues.

gave up and took it to the shop and the problem was both fuel pumps. Now car runs better but there are a lot of small things that need fixed. When driving it home the oil lite would come on at a stop but go off when driving, Radiator has a small leak, both axels need replased.

    Buy a Bentley.
Grounds, Grounds, Grounds Replace them things.
Divorces, Great Coffee, and Electrics, all start with GOOD Grounds.

i changed the oil and put in 20-50 and that fixed it, just sucks the person i got it from just put changed the oil and put a good filter on. Oh well, one more thing down. Next week is new axels and strurts. I already got the axels but have not found struts yet. My wifes $2000 car is up to $3,000 but she loves it. More than her BMW z3.
