I just picked up this 2007 gti and I was changing the oil the other day. I noticed this part (pic above). I thought the car was completely stock but the previous owner installed this. I'm not sure if it's the Forge DV or the atmospheric spacer (link below).

    Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Looks like the DV spacer to me.

It's only 3 bolts to pull it off.

I may be wrong but I thought these only fit on the commonly failing older diaphragm DV?

There's replacing broken parts, and there's preventative maintenance; this is neither. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If he pulls the spacer out, he'll stop that oil leak that it is causing.

Looks like a lot of blow-by. I bet when you take off the DV it will pour out a bit.

Some people say that it's normal. I can tell you my GTI gets its fair share of being hammered on and was clean as can be at the DV when I replaced it recently.

Hmm.. I should have pulled it off
When I changed the oil over the weekend, maybe this weekend I'll take a better look at it. The gti goes into the shop tomorrow to get an outer cv boot replaced so I might have it checked while it's on the lift

Remove the spacer, and check the diaphragm. It's easy to see when the diaphragm is failing. It'll have cracks that show up when you gently push on or twist the rubber material.

If it's failed, re install it and order the new RevD version. no sweat. Car should run ok on the failing diverter.

Reinstall with the revD and the spacer or no spacer?

The car makes a hissing sound, coming from the DV i would suppose, when i give it gas. When the turbo spools and im in boost.. no more hissing sound.

Oh and yes - don't use the spacer. It's just a toy.

The spacer works with the Rev D as well.
    Engineers do it better.

BTW, I have a Rev D and oil all over as well. It doesn't really drip, but its there. I replaced the valve and its still there. I think its blowing past the o-ring. The car runs fine.

yeah im kind of puzzled on the oil that is on the spacer/DV.. just coated on it..

EDIT: make sure the old o-ring from the original DV didnt stick and stay there causing you to have 2 o-rings, I read on the mkvgolf forum of someone doing that
