Think I am going to do it!

Shaved Hatch + Rear View Camera Retrofit ... Will it work? You're guess is as good as mine.

OEMplus just sent out their August Newsletter and they have "special" right now on their Rear View Camera Retrofits. If you have seen some of their customer cars or have been to their shop. You can see all the amazing work they come up with. Their retrofits are amazing what factory components they get to work with other models.

So I just called them and see what we can do to make this happen. I have an appointment tomorrow to go over everything.

They are working with my budget and I think we are going to start with an RNS-315 with their Rear View Camera Retrofit and figure out camera placement with a car without a rear hatch emblem. Should be pretty interesting.

One thing I am excited to do now since I will be upgrading my HU is the option of their FISCON-Mobile. I factory integration. I think that is why they are called OEMplus for a reason.

I'll post some photos soon with an update. In the meantime. Here are some photos I grabbed online.

Here is the car it's going in.

Could you fit a sportwagen camera in between the plate lights?

I was pretty much thinking HUH till I read this part. Good luck though, I originally thought you was trying to retrofit the factory rear view camera which is under the VW emblem. I was thinking how is this going to work with a shaved hatch.

Both are great ideas. However, being that my car is low, the area around the plate light might be too low. And the suggestion of the wiper hole might be the wrong angle for the camera to be fully functional.

But I will try to see if we can make them work!

I think if I posted a photo of the rear it might help.

Actually, I was thinking of mounting it in the 3rd brake light. It's the perfect angle. It should be easy. LOL Just replacing the the stock location of the drippy wiper squirter.

Here is a quick update. Installation of the RNS-315 was a success. The guys at OEMplus really surpassed themselves. Also, maybe because I had the RCD-510, installation was quick and simple.

Just remove the RCD-510 and install the RNS-315 along with mounting a factory GPS antenna. We also tested out OEMplus' Rear View Camera Retrofit. Everything plugged right in and worked perfectly. Just a wire behind the radio for the video feed. Power, ground and trigger hookup close the toe camera. (I will post up more photos when I drill into my 3rd brake light)

But since the new radio is in. I now have navigation, it's all integrated. It's pretty fancy if you ask me. I have always used an aftermarket nav, but this being my first OEM nav, I really dig it. I got a display on the cluster, display on the radio. Controls on the steering wheel, controls on the radio. The bonus of if all this, it's was easy and everything is in one unit.

One thing I need to go back and get is to integrate my blutooth, my OEM blutooth works, I can pickup and hang up, but my old blutooth module doesn't sync with the built in blutooth inside the RNS-315. According to OEMplus, they are going to order a new mic and disconnect the old blutooth module and everything should display. Of course, I am sure there is some VAGcom stuff that needs to be coded.

Anyways, here is an update. I only have this photo from my Instagram. I will post all the photos when I get more deeper in the installation process.

I work in video surveillance industry and was actually thinking about doing this.

Anyone think I'll miss my rear wiper? I know lots of folks remove it for looks, just wondering if anyone regrets it. Does it throw any codes if it's not there?

No your car won't care if it isn't there. I removed it on my Mk4 and didn't really miss it. Just rainx the crap out of it. Some people even wax it...

You're in CA, you should be fine. Here in NE a rear wiper is sort of necessary, in winter at least.

Here is a mockup from this weekend.

I have it temporary mounted on the car, but it's a little crooked.
I plan on redoing the mounting so I am happy with the picture alignment.
