I noticed on fueleconomy.gov that the 2013 Tiguan (auto non-4mo) is rated at 21/26 which is down from 2012 at 22/27. Makes one wonder if they gave up on the crappy shift map from 2012 and chose to applying the TSB software at the factory for the 2013s...

I've never seen better than 21 mpg average (60% city/40% hwy), but that's been discussed in a whole other thread.

I get about 22 city mpg after the update. Highway is about 30mpg.

I sometimes can get 26mpg-28 around town. Going 40mph on a straight road my record was 37mpg, yes that is correct 37mpg. I have regular 2012 tiguan LE, no 4x4 of course.

well just came back on my long round trip drive from DC to down to the RGV Texas and the Tig was awesome. Almost hit 32 mpg on super long stretches in VA, TN, GA, AL, MS, LA, and TX.and around town in TX got between 23-24 mpg city. sweet.

just fyi, no tran update done on my tig. smooth shifting and excellent responsiveness.

    now up to 7650 miles.

the only bad thing to happen was a nice rock kissed my windshield right behind the rear view mirror area/the darkened part of the windshield on my way back. although nothing was noticed on impact, overnight there was nice long crack which grew more the 2nd day of my return trip.

    getting windshield replaced soon.

Well, the Americans demanded a "better" (according to them) shift program and now you're seeing the end result. Simple really.

More of your condesending, anti-American ranting again...don't your ever get tired of it? Its a real bore. You have alot to say about a transmission you don't personally have. Why don't you switch up every now and then and talk about the Canadians since some of them complained about the shift program too. Maybe when you talk about "americans" you mean all of the Americas...North and South.

Nothing "anti-American" about it, just stating facts thats all. Take a chill pill mate

For what it's worth my 2008 Diesel Tig that I've had for over 4 years now has the same 6 speed auto (I have no idea what program it runs) and it has always gone into 5th and 6th early and had a bit of a lug/groan to itself. Personally it doesn't worry me and I always accepted it as a factor of getting better fuel consumption.

    Cheers

That is what I get too. Actually, I am getting better than 33mpg to work, but that is because they are rolling hills and I know exactly when to take out the gear and let it roll.
