Stage 3 b5 s4 w/ stock inner coolers help

I'm currently stage 3 setup except for upgraded inner coolers.. Id like to know how much boost I can run until I can afford rs4 ic's or a front mount.. And a stage 3 tune

I also have mixed answers about what fpr to run.. Many say a 4bar is plenty.. And others say I should run a 5 bar??

Any input would greatly be appreciated

you run a couple of risks running the stock intercoolers, one being the endtanks are plastic and are prone to cracking causing a major boost leek. the other being that they get heat soaked very quickly and if you were to run at full 2.7t stage 3 it could cause engine to detonate not good... that being said i would have some one give your car a moderate tune around 19 20psi you should be good just keep an eye on those intercoolers and watch for boost leaks

I'm running 12 right now.. Not enough lol. So I should be safe with 18 for now? And how much boost could i run safely after i get my front mount?

New to the boost world.. Used to my all motor built 24v vr6

I agree with what Blu said, but if you truly are fully Stage 3, than you can boost as high as 25-27.. However, remember you have K04's, Not RS6/GTs.... They can still fail.


I am Stage 3 as well with plenty of supporting mods, and I spike to 26, and hold at 22-23. I also allow proper cool down and warm up procedures as well. As long as you don't beat the hell out of your S4, and do some preventive maintenance, you should be fine.

Also, food for thought, you dont have to go FMIC, I have AWE SMIC's with intercooler sprayers and they work just fine.

what he said about the boost range and the car was designed for side mount intercoolers that way you don't have to put an electric fan in because the radiotior is being blocked by an fmic. I would go for the awe coolers or evolution racewerks. I have rs4 smic only cause my car was built 10 years ago

Mtm 3" down pipes
Mtm full exhaust. Cat back
Southbend stage 3 clutch
Upgraded dv's
Short ram intake
Bigger Fuel pump
I believe my cars running a mtm stage 1 tune? But not positive

Few other parts/mods.. I'll think of as soon as I post this lol

Yep, just remember, with the S4 practice some PATIENCE and become methodical...

Meaning, if you have a goal (Boost, HP, stance) etc, work at it piece by piece, this especially goes to the newer/younger crowd of recent B5 S4 owners, throwing huge turbo setups/ running large amounts of boost, then blowing the motor and parting out due to all the money they spent on the Turbo kit etc etc..
