    Good morning dubbers,

I'm new to the vw world of tuning and I'm in the process of getting my mk5 rabbit tuned. Have done the unitronic stage 1 + but I want more but... I don't want to spend the cash on a turbo kit. I've done too many. Wanted to try something different. The sauce.

Let me know who has used it on the 2.5 and feel free to share other knowledge about these motors. Or anything about the mk5.

    Thank you.

I hope you're getting internals done if you're thinking Nitrous. The guys at NGP did it with their rabbit, but no internals and they basically blew the car up.

Not blow up per say, but it did run lean on cylinder 5 basically melting the spark plug, and breaking off a small piece of piston. The car actually ran fine after that but would have small misfires every once in a while. Once we pulled the engine apart to build it for the turbo set up, we found the damaged piston. The nitrous set up was a last minute (not well thought out) decision to through on before Waterfest one year so that the car would be able to keep up with, and be faster than some 2.0t's. With a 75 shot it would stay even with an APR Stage 2 GTI.

I hope this is only intended for the drag strip, and will be disconnected on the road. It's illegal for road use.

It is illegal for nitrous to be hooked up on the streets in Canada, but not illegal to have a system installed. ie: system in place for track use only, but not connected/fueling on the street.

Pros- endless fast and furious quotes, makes your car a rayskor

Cons - not good for engine, or your standing with local police

  19. 08-11-2012 12:42 AM #20
CONS , its not a constant power adder , not legal for street use
pro, super cheep, driveway install, contrary to all the "experts " that have posted it does no damage to your engine , in fact it will clean most of the carbon off your internals

that being said there are a few things to consider
1: fuel and timing s a huge factor , run only shell 91 , and you will need a ignition controller to retard the timing 2 degrees for every 50hp of expected gain

in all bottle fed cases i recommend TWO (2) points of activation one being arming switch and nothing other than full throttle activation .

all those engines you see blowing up are from nitrous pooling aka puddles .

anywho .. i say buy a zex kit they have by far the best components on the market
but at the end of the day they all get the job done

i will conclude that if done with care and proper research MOST stock engines will handle a 100hp shot all day long after that running lean becomes a major issue , like any other power adder there are stages, all requiring supporting mods. know the engines limits and stay beneath them

after that .. go have fun

most people dont even know how it works, i mean, i'll bet +50% think its a replacement for fuel. this is why so many kids go way lean on backyard setups and pop the engine.

Pro - you have to install a new transmission so that you can go 100mph on the highway in reverse

Con - chiropractor bill, as your neck is constantly in an awkward position
