No Response from ABS Module - Audi A5

[The Great Gatsby]

Tried to retrofit the Audi Hold Assit function to my Audi A5 3.0 TDI Quattro (MY2011). I followed the information as can be found at this link (http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-perfor...ld-assist.html). I was able to get the new leads into the ABS connector at locations 8 and 16 just fine. I then tried the last step, which is to code the ABS module (address 03) for the AHA function. At that point I was not able to get a response from the module anymore.

I'm using an official VAG-cable (purchased through auto-intern in Germany) and the latest version of VCDS (scan can be found below).

I'm ruling out a defective module at the moment as I did get a low tire pressure warning just the other day, which is controlled by the ABS module as well. In the meantime I have disconnected the new leads again but still cannot get access to the ABS module.

What could be causing this and how can I troubleshoot? Is there a method to check the diagnostic communication to this module?

I would take it a step further doing a capacitor discharge bridge and then also even switch terminal 15 manually, to verify the eeprom can go night nights.

I already had the negative pole of the battery disconnected for about 30 minutes to see if it would reset. That did not make a difference.

@Jack - could you explain a little more how to do this capacitor bridge and/or switch terminal 15. Not 100% clear to me at this stage

Theresias - thanks for this info. Any idea as tho when this update will be available. Weird thing is that I was able to communicate to the ABS module earlier. Will check if that was with an earlier release yes/no.

It would be a good idea to do what the wizard has requested.

He knows his stuff when it comes to those ABS modules.


Cap discharge is when the battery is disconnected and then the the leads are tied together for at least a minute but with ignition key then also switched on during wait prior and then shut off before reconnected.

Terminal 15 is key on voltage vs terminal 30 which is constant voltage B+

Each controller has in most cases separate 15 and 30 circuits and sometimes multiple of both.
Use WD to determine.

A swap is done when 30 is powered up with 15 and then only 15 is released for 30-seconds to a minute, while 30 is used to save data before processor goes night nights.

Believe I have this resolved.

Based on feedback provided I tried with earlier version of VCDS (11.11.2) and I'm able to communicate fine with the controller. Will do the reprogram and see if everything is working.

Always thought that the Auto Intern cable was an official Ross-Tech cable as they are listed on their website. Luckily this was a simple fix.
