    Brake Calipers

The 6-piston front calipers feature a piston array of varying diameters to ensure even pressure distribution across the entire pad surface. Unlike many generic braking systems on the market today, light braking under daily driving will not result in a 'grabby' or harsh, on/off braking feeling. This is because the VWR braking system is specific to each vehicle and was expertly matched to the OEM master cylinder and brake servo assistance. This ensures pedal feel is nearly identical to stock in normal driving conditions, yet capable of providing tremendous stopping power in high demand situations.

The calipers are forged from lightweight aluminum and designed to house large brake pads. The forged design provides intrinsic compressive stresses to help combat the negative effects of caliper flex, allowing improved force distribution and reduced vibration. Each unit features a thin caliper profile to aid in clearances and weight savings while not sacrificing structural integrity, even in the most demanding environments.

Calipers are available in red, black or blue with Volkswagen Racing script.

    Brake Pads

VWR provides performance street brake pads with each system. However, a standard pad size was chosen to afford customers the ability to run their favorite brands and compounds without proprietary restrictions.

    Caliper Carriers

VWR provides strong and lightweight aluminum caliper carriers, with Racingline script, to properly mount the brake calipers. Standard mounting hardware is included and longer hardware is available for those with uprated factory aluminum uprights.

    Brake Rotors

Massive 352mm x 32mm ventilated and grooved 2-piece disc surfaces provide dramatically better braking, both in terms of pedal response and resistance to fade, under hard use. To reduce brake fade, the ventilated design dissipates heat while the grooved surfaces evacuate gases released from the pads. The 2-piece design further aids in heat dissipation while reducing unsprung mass through the use of a lightweight aluminum bell. Because the bell housing is separate from the disc and reusable, replacement discs are less expensive.

    Interlocking Hub Spacers

A key feature of the VWR Braking System is the use of Interlocking Hub Spacers which offer several benefits in one convenient package. The VWR Interlocking Hub Spacers allow for proper caliper clearance and/or extra wheel spacing for looks and handling without increasing vibration, or negatively impacting drivability.

A common problem with larger than stock brake systems is an inability to use OEM and some aftermarket wheels due to the larger caliper width contacting the wheel's spokes. The available VWR Interlocking Hub Spacers allow for an additional spacing of 5mm, 7mm or 10mm depending on application needs. Each spacer locks into the rotor's bell housing to ensure no unnecessary movement or vibration is created under acceleration and braking.

This is a key benefit for customers swapping wheels during harsh winters, daily driving or track use. Within reason, no matter the offset, the VWR Interlocking Hub Spacers allow for issue free fitment of different offset wheels without swapping bell housings, or worse, removal of the entire braking system.

VWR Brakes are designed for 18" and larger diameter wheels. Each Interlocking Hub Adapter is sold separately.

    Brake Lines

The VWR Performance Brake System includes braided stainless steel brake lines to improve the braking system's effectiveness and longevity over conventional OEM rubber lines. Rubber lines have a tendency to swell or expand under heavy braking creating a soft or spongy pedal. However, stainless steel lines remain true to their form providing a more responsive and firm brake pedal. Abrasion and corrosion resistant, these lines will stay functional and looking good for years to come.

Bleeding the braking system is a required step in any brake caliper or brake line install and marks a perfect opportunity for upgrading to Motul’s premium street or track brake fluids. APR recommends Motul DOT 5.1 for street and light track use and Motul RBF 600 or 660 for track use only. See the Motul section listed below for more details on each fluid.

    Lightweight, Strong and Proven

An obvious feature of the VWR Performance Brake System is an increase in stopping power, but an often-overlooked benefit is an increase in acceleration, ride comfort and handling through a reduction in unsprung mass. Typical OEM brake systems on VAG A5 platform vehicles (Golf, Jetta, A3, etc) weigh 33 lbs per side (Even more for Golf R, S3 and larger systems) while the entire VWR system weighs in at 29 LBS with pads!

    Manufacturing and Quality Control

Through years of brutal testing in the Volkswagen Racing Cup, the VWR Braking System has proven to be a strong and reliable system for both street and track applications. Each system is manufactured in the UK and sample units are run through a battery of tests as seen below.

Nice! This is most likely the only bbk I would get for my car besides brembos. I like that these are a bit more oem+ but too bad they are not monoblock calipers.

I don't know enough about the other options (which is another reson id skip) to comment much about them but I'd rather go with a trusted, tried and true company that specializes in brakes than someone who just makes brakes along with a bunch of other parts they think they can sell. There are only a few really great brake companies in the world and AP (who makes the vwr brakes) is one of them. Brembo would be the best, followed by Alcon and I probably wouldn't use anything besides those if I was paying for a bbk.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

MOV'IT is probably the best but are not affordable (if you can afford it by them). Brembo is the most popular but rumor had it some kits were coming out of China. Nothing against China just not sure about quality control. I personally would take Alcon over Brembo for track days. Baer is the manufacture for HPA's kit. I believe they have been in the game for a while but mainly do American cars. Willwood is reputable as well and I have 6 piston front four piston rear kit for my E46 330i ZHP. StopTech which is the performance end of Centric. The kit seems to be quality and has a fairly good following, but I have no experience with them directly.

I inquired about this a while back and they people over seas seemed a bit annoyed that I asked questions about the kit. Hopefull now that APR is the vendor customer service will be better. Interested in the kit but also shoping the HPA kit as well. I do like this kit as this was my first choice.

Guess I will have to send some questions to APR!

I have had nothing but bad experiences with aftermarket kits on my previous cars. These sound as close to OE as your going to get. Maybe I'm wrong but I would give these a shot over any other.

Nice kit, and the interlocking hub spacers are a cool detail. I wonder if these will clear the OEM R32 wheels without spacers. Also do the calipers allow for "quick swapping" of brake pads? With how open the back of the calipers are, I would assume so.

I would also like to note that the recent surge of aftermarket support in the last year for our cars is pretty sweet. So many options to choose from.

They are 'quick swapable'. We did them at the track recently.

That is why I like to get complete front and rear kits. I do agree with you on this kit sounding as close to OEM, manufactured to work with OEM config, more so than the others.

Not arguing against them as I said these are one of the top two kits I would get but just reminding everyone that VWR chimed in themselves and mentioned that the brake regulator is self adjusting so there is no need to worry about bias when putting on any BBK. If you are still concerned, the more important thing would be to calculate the total brake force/torque from OEM and compare those to whatever you end up with.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

Oh no! Why did you say that? LOL!!

What is the warranty and duration of warranty?

If service is required, no matter if warranty or just customer desire, who handles it? Will APR service the calipers or will they have to be shipped back to manufacture overseas?

The pad offered with this kit is what size? Does it match directly to any OEM car's brake pad currently (for example, same size as Cayman S or C6 Vette)?

What is the hat offset versus the OEM hat offset (how far in/out the new rotor will sit)?

Are spacers required to fit this kit under OEM conditions? Meaning that if everything is OEM, as from factory, will this kit require a spacer to work properly?

Do you have a template of the kit to verify fitment/clearance of caliper? So I can verify if kit will fit without spacers with aftermarket wheels.

What OEM parts will be removed and not reinstalled (like removal of dust shield)?

Will brake sensor remain or be removed?

Is the brake biased changed at all from OEM? By this I mean will the bias change to be more rear biased or more front biased?

And lastly...can you get them in yellow?

Some of these may have been answered already, and if so I apologize for asking again.

    Thanks

    From VWR:
The Company warrants that all genuine parts will be free of defects in material or workmanship for 12 months from sale by the Company. In respect of any other parts fitted or other Goods, the Company assigns to the Customer the benefits of the applicable manufacturers warranty. The Company warrants its work free of defects in workmanship for a period of 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever occurs sooner, from the date of completion of the work.

If service is required, no matter if warranty or just customer desire, who handles it? Will APR service the calipers or will they have to be shipped back to manufacture overseas?
We will handle it for you.

The pad offered with this kit is what size? Does it match directly to any OEM car's brake pad currently (for example, same size as Cayman S or C6 Vette)?
    Length 152mm
    Width 54mm
    Depth 17mm

The pads have the same dimensions as Ferodo part FRP3077H. I'm not sure if it matches any other OEM pads.

What is the hat offset versus the OEM hat offset (how far in/out the new rotor will sit)?
    I will ask.

Are spacers required to fit this kit under OEM conditions? Meaning that if everything is OEM, as from factory, will this kit require a spacer to work properly?
That will depend on the set of wheels you have. If you give me the wheel name, it may be possible to ask.

Do you have a template of the kit to verify fitment/clearance of caliper? So I can verify if kit will fit without spacers with aftermarket wheels.

Yes. I need to get that from VWR. Let me remind them.

What OEM parts will be removed and not reinstalled (like removal of dust shield)?
    No oem parts are reinstalled.

Will brake sensor remain or be removed?
That will depend on the pads. The ones we provide don't have them.

Is the brake biased changed at all from OEM? By this I mean will the bias change to be more rear biased or more front biased?
    No

And lastly...can you get them in yellow?
    No

Some of these may have been answered already, and if so I apologize for asking again.

    Thanks

    Hey Arin

A few more questions to clear up some of the answers.

When you say "We will handle it for you." in regards to the warranty...I should have been mor detailed. If the part fails I know I will contact you as I paid you directly, but who will actually service the part? Does APR have the ability to service the part or will it have to be shipped back to the UK? A followup question will come based on the response.

I currently have Rotiorm Nue wheels, size 19X8.5 (4). I would need the template for my other set of custom ISS Forged Spia wheels, size 20X8 & 20X9.

If I understand your reply correctly...the dust shield is being removed, correct?

Thanks for answering the first round of questions.

If the part fails under warranty, you will ship the item here and we'll ship you a new one.

I'm still waiting for the template and was told I would probably get it monday.

Probably not. The system is VWR's and not ours. We're raffling off software and fuel pumps though.

Too bad they don't sell matching rotors for the rear.

Also too bad that the dust shield has to go, but nice that they clear stock wheels sans spacer (RB I'm scowling at you right now).

My RB order is already placed though, VWR took way too damn long getting these over here.
I have installed most of the popular bolt-on mods for a 2008 R32, minus suspension work. I know a lot about electronics and car audio, and have experience with VCDS ("vagcom"). I'm a radar/lidar countermeasure enthusiast. I like track days, autocross, and US Highway 129. I love aural pleasure.
