Thought I'd share a video with you guys.... this was earlier today. I in no way gestured or signaled to the guy, I make a point of changing lanes only after the indicator blinked a couple of times and it's in an 80 km/h zone...

What got me there is that he took the time to stop in the intersection, roll down window and his scream obscenities at me in front what I assumed to be his wife and kids...

This may become a weekly thread...

Got mine for $197 off eBay, shipped. Only issue was updating the firmware with new, English, version. Took about an hour though and now works fine. Only issue with it so far is if you leave the car sitting for a long time. Left for a week and it was struggling to start after.

That's a pretty good deal IIRC. I would probably get 2..pointing rear/front. Can you PM me seller or link?

Actually you're the driver in the wrong, unless this is in a country with right hand drive. That is called undertaking, passing on the right. I would have yelled at you also.

So by your definition the guy driving 20 below the limit in the center lane and than making a right turn while straddling both lanes, without looking, is the guy driving the right way. Even considering that that right or the next one are my two options to get home.

Also, undertaking is not illegal where I live unless done one single lane roads.

Take a look at the readout in the corner... That's the speed I was driving.

I actually have to correct myself, the limit on that road is 70 so technically i was doing 10km(6miles) over... considering that there is a cruiser on that road pretty regularly and I had no front plate on that could have been awkward.

F'in hate drivers here in America. We need to change our laws to European standards and force mofos on the right. It's retarded when you're driving on the highway here and the fastest lane w/ least amount of cars is the right lane.

The right lane indicates it is a turn only lane. What were you going to do? Actually make a turn or pass him and continue going straight?

It's actually a through lane... Continues on past the intersection. Turn only lanes here are indicated by black signs with white arrows above or beside the lane. I was actually going to go past and make the next right.

  24. 08-09-2012 06:40 PM #24
WHy u try to pass on right? One thing I've learned that someone doing something dumb, like driving in the center lane significantly below the speed limit, is a clear sign they are capable (and likely) of committing another stupid act. People get lost / turned around, drive slow in center lane, looking at street signs so they can get left or right quick to make a legal turn.

Pretty sure I mentioned before, but I passed on the right because I was turning right to get home.

Being someone who lives maybe 20 minutes from Gryph, and actually being able to tell exactly where he was, passing on the right is perfectly fine there. And if you really want to debate it, you should see what other drives do ... Driving 20 under the limit in the middle lane is just the beginning of the horror stories I could tell you.

Never mind changing the laws. What needs to be changed are the drivers. To get licensed here in Canada is beyond simple. And the schooling/training process is an absolute joke. When I took mine years ago they taught me to put my hands at 10 and 2 NOT 9 and 3, was told in the event of a skid/drift to turn into the skid and use the brakes (seriously?) and for the written test, I graded it myself, as per the teachers request. This sh*t is ridiculous!

shouldn't you pass on the left, you should always turn from the outside corner to the inside then back to the outside.

Sure if you're on a race track... We cone it all the time for novices when they come out, turn in, apex and turn out...

In terms of safety, passing on the right is the best thing to do. If you pass on the left, in the event that the driver in the centre lane cuts you off even further, you would then have to drive into on coming traffic; where as passing on the right allows you the use of the side walk as an exit. And in Gryphon's case, had the driver done just that he could have turned down another street.

What's all this "don't pass on the right" talk? I've always understood that it only applies to a two-lane road, meaning you don't pass on the right where the emergency lane is. There is no "passing" rules like that for a multi-lane divided road. I don't think you are even "passing" in this case, you are just going faster in a different lane.

P.S. Forget 10-2 on the wheel. That rule was made before airbags. 8-4 is the new 10-2. 8-4 also allows a greater range of motion without having to switch hands.

8-4 offers much less range of motion compared to 9-3 ... go try it

I always thought passing on the right even in a marked lane was "wrong" if you were doing it for the purposing of passing and not just going with the flow of traffic.

It is however illegal in some places.

LOL.......interesting to hear that driving stupidity isn't limited to the southern tropics. On the roads of south Florida, the left 'speed' lanes are full of cars doing 35-45mph, even on the Interstates or the Fla. turnpike. The right lanes are relatively *EMPTY*. So yeah, I pass on the right all the time, you can hardly avoid doing so. Also, brainless drivers on side streets waiting to turn out into traffic will also seemingly wait until you are right on top of them, then suddenly pull out into your lane in front of you, and hardly accelerate at all. So you have to either do a sudden lane change or slam on your brakes to avoid rear-ending the moron. I do a LOT of driving, and I could go on...I see drivers from all over the southeast, I think its worse down here than anywhere.

I actually live around this area.. Gryphon is going 10 over the posted limit, everyone does that & even more around here (Canada). Some fast drivers have gone 50 over the limit resulting a suspension & impounding there vehicle for good.. So the law here is strict.. Majority of people will go 10 over during the morning hours, because its the flow of traffic.. However seeing in this video, the person driving the green car didn't look at her/his blind spot, she/he made the turn first.. Realizing Gryphon was in front of them, he/she hesitated, Gryphon pulled back in the middle lane & then the driver of the Green car checked the mirrors & proceeded.. Some people need to actually sit down and adjust the Mirrors & actually focus on the road..
