NO WAY IN HELL!! Don't you see the miles? I'd give $2500 tops and that's even being generous.....

Unusual to see a manual transmission V6, much more so in the GLX trim level. 241k is a lot of miles; but some people have proved these cars can last much longer. Still, I'd try to get it cheaper. Preferably, a lot cheaper.

Looks like mine, only in silver and with 160K more miles ;-)

If it has a full service history, I would think it is a good find. It looks to have been kept after remarkably well.

Definitely need to know the mileage on the timing belt since last change, the clutch, accessory belt, etc.

If you go to inspect, pull the plugs and look for oil on the threads (valve cover gaskets). Check the level and color of the coolant.

Edmund's Private Party True Market Value for that car is $4,100. With a good service history and up to date majors, try to get it for that.

    I love my 2.8L 5MT.

The only thing that would even keep me interested is that the location this car is in it is alot of older people living there.

That being said. 241k miles scares the hell out of me, especially for a 04. My 92 gli only had 151k on it as of 2 yrs ago. I am looking for a work car to put mileage on, but i dont know if it would be in my best interest to get a car with high mileage already. I just put 8k miles on my leased car in the last 2 months. This car my be well maintained but its still scary.

he has gone down from 4500 to 3200 so i know he would go down some more.

i was also thinking at 2500 it might be a steal

too pricy for the miles, if it wasnt done before than in the nerest future expect droping some money in it, v6 cats 350 a side just the part ( you might need 2 sides), clutch 275, just the part, valve cover gaskets with camshaft seals + t belt about 120 in parts, engine mounts about 50 a side. all plus labor. If i had more money back then i'd have chosen a 1.8t. screw the options, the 4 cyl is so much easier and cheaper to maintain and repair. So imho no way.
I love the v6 for the power and torque, but rpairs.

is the 1.8t really cheaper? it seems it all depends on the person. i am done with always tinkering with my cars. i got 2 young kids so i dont have the time to work on my car. the last 1.8t passat i had was cool but lacked the balls i was looking for. i was always buying a new add on trying to gain hp

Six of one, half dozen of the other. The 1.8T has the turbocharger to worry about; the V6 has twice as many cam chain tensioners, O2 sensors, catalytic converters, and valve cover gaskets to replace.

IF you take care of it and avoid oil sludge issues, I think the 1.8T is cheaper. The V6 has more torque and HP, but most of the former and more than all of the latter can be addressed with a $500 ECU chip. Even with that, the 1.8T gets quite a bit better mileage. (Guess which I own)

yea but the way i see it buying a used car you might be safer with a v6, unless a person has service receipts for there 1.8t.
im not trying to start a which one is better, more like which one is safer to buy as a used car

It is an old car with a lot of miles, i have a v6 with a manual transmission, you will get into a horror story with maintenance. a blown turbo is cheaper to replace and easier, but if you do have the money go ahead, i eat 4 cylinders for breakfast with my v6. green lihght races i even took on a cc and was winning till the next light, where he finaly started catching up. i can spin tires easily even without the esp on. i haul with it about 300 lbs in tools in my trunk and easy take 3 more peole with me. power yes granted. but i want to change it for a 4 cyl auto, coz it is cheaper to maintain and it eats less gas.

for 4.5 k i could find a lower miles car. GL though, if you like the car just buy it and don't let any one tell you otherwise( except for your wife though).

I am letting that one pass. The major decision I have now is do I get another 1.8t or go v6. The car I'm selling right now is a jetta vr6. So if I go by stock hp the 1.8t is comparable and the v6 would probably give me the same hp I have with all the mods done on the vr6.

Major concern is I don't want to buy a car that a 1.8t and then have turbo issues etc. since I have been looking a decent v6 5spd is been hard to locate in florida or Georgia. The 1.8ts have been more popular.
