Maybe "rare" should have been better defined. The term usually applies to a number of those extant, not difficulty in finding. I call those, "diificult to find".
I guess I'm kinda agreeing with you. My response was to the person that said that 900 of some mass-produced vehicle is "rare".

One car that I've maybe only seen one for sale is the 1990-1992 Volvo 740 Turbo with manual transmission. I see the earlier quad-headlight ones with a manual, but never the later ones.

I'm not arguing with you. We just have a different perception of "rare". I thought the Norman Rockwell plates I purchased 40+ years ago were rare, too. I paid $29 apiece for them. I can sell them, right now, for $28 each. There's a difference between rare and valuable.
My 356 Cabrio is creeping up in value. There were only 250 made in 1955. There are about 10 left in the world. There were 1500+ Speedsters made, which were the stripped-down version of my convertible. They had uncomfortable seats, a stick-built top and no side windows yet they go for 2-3 times what the Cabs go for, even though so few survived.

1984 Indy Fiero. I've only found ones that have very low miles for very high prices.

Mine is one of 250 built for world consumption. Only about 100 were sent to the US badged as "Continental" Cabrios. Only about 10 of those are left from 1955 production. IMO, that makes it bordering on rare. When I think rare I think supercharged Duesenbergs and 1953 Cunningham C-3 Continentals. There were about 30 of each made.
To me, that's rare.

No pics, but I want my first two cars back:
1) 1989 Chevy Beretta GTU (all options incl. factory flip up roof, 5 spd, 2.8l V6). Bought in 1992 with 20k miles on it. Yes I know, most youngins around here would be loathe to like this car but it was my first, like new and actually rather peppy.
2) 1987 Audi 5000 CSq- refrigerator on wheels, my first car but quickly turned into winter car after Beretta was bought.

I have been on a waiting list for one of these at a local Italian repair shop since 2005, in case one should ever appear for sale. I don't think the US ever got a TD, but I'm sure the reliability of those was exponentially better than the gasoline models.
