Thread: Multiple code faults in ecu

    I am having some real issues with my 1999.5 AEG 2.0L

    I have replaced the MAF 4 times because the codes thrown indicated.it was the problem. Now it is throwing a bunch of codes. I have a Bluetooth ecu code reader, so some of these might now correlate properly. It is throwing P0117 - engine coolant temp circuit low input, P0102 - mass air flow circuit low input, P0112 - intake air temp circuit low input, P0172 - system too rich bank 1, P1172 - long term fuel trim mult.

    At this point I don't know where to go with this thing.

    If any one of these codes popped individually I would just replace the part, but the fact I have repeatedly replaced one part and it still comes up has me scratching my head. The system too rich has to have something to do with the other codes, same with fuel trim. I don'twant to just throw more money at the temp and intake sensor only to have thus issue back in a matter of days after I do it like the MAF did.

    Use the locator in the VAG-COM forum to find someone close with VCDS and scan the car. The scan tool you are using is generic and won't give as much detailed information. From the looks of it, some of the sensors appear not be getting constant/full voltage signal. All the wires for these sensors are connected in the main engine harness. Check this connector, clean it, and try it again.

    Thank god. I never thought to check the main ecu harness. I had the automatic transmission swapped to a manual and it looks like they didn't lock the harness back down, so when I hit a bump it unseated a little, thus all the issues. Now I just have to figure out how to reprogram the ecu so it knows I have a manual transmission.

    You need to contact a tuner. Sometimes they can reprogram for manual trans, but it's possible you may require an ECU from a manual car, depending on what controller you have.
