Thread: Fitted my carbon MKV style mirrors

  1. 08-09-2012 05:31 AM #1
I've had these for a while now and been on the fence about fitting them. I wanted to get some carbon covers but couldn't find any that I liked - a lot of them the weave goes the same way on both sides and looks a bit odd to me. Then I saw some for sale which had been professionally laminated and even re-lacquered in a special ceramic top coat to make them more durable.

Well today I set about stripping down the door panels to fit them. Turns out it was a doddle and the only tricky bit was running the wiring for the indicators (which I've yet to wire up). They're bigger than the standard R ones but I like them. Only slight downside I've noticed is the drivers side one doesn't turn out far enough. Its ok for normal driving but occasionally its handy to be able to move them to see further to the right. Its probably because they're OE VW but from a different market (China I think) and so likely to be LHD even though the glass is for RHD cars. Anyway, onto some pics

Do you have a head on shot of the whole car at all?

Often wondered what these would look like.

Those BBS' look so nice, by the way.

The new Mark 4.5 Golf's in Brasil now have the Mk 6 style pointy mirrors (still only LHD offset of course)

I'll try and get a shot today but I'm fighting with the wiring. Worked out what needs to go where in the hazard switch but I'll be damned if I can get the connectors out. I've got a pin removal tool but nothing seems to be budging. Anyone know how to release them?

Don't forget to remove the purple lock piece first.

The purple lock piece is a bit of a pain but managed to sort my wiring out and now the indicators work correctly. Here's the head on shot you asked for Graeme

Thank you for the extra pics.

If you want to delete the indicators in the guard without welding there is an oem blanking plate off a Sharan 7M3 853 688 from when they swapped to their indicators in the mirrors.

They come with various inscriptions, but one says "Exclusive Edition"

That could be painted blue to blend in....or carbon wrapped.
