Thread: Where does the coil pack get power?!?

  1. 08-09-2012 05:01 PM #1
I am not getting supply voltage to the ignition coil on my mkIV 12v vr6 jetta. I have searched and searched but cant find a listing on fuse and relay numbers or locations. I've checked every fuse I can see and followed as much wire as I could see. Does anyone know what relay and fuse numbers are a foot in the circuit? Or where even where the other end of the wires are?

It get power from ign switch

So there is no relay involved? Everything else lights up on the ignition switch, radio, etc so a wire burnout somewhere in the line?

Im not that savvy with the mk4 wiring however on a mk3 thats what powers the ecu. No it wouldnt be a wire check your fuses and if you have a load reduction relay try swapping that out with a known working one as see if that helps

I think it's in one of the relays however there are a bunch of fancy relays in a long panel under the dash, I felt them quickly (all are clicking nicely) but I won't have time to pull them and analyze them individually till the weekend. All the fuses are in tact, checked them twice and even replaced a few that tested good just with known working ones just for sport. I would kill for a wiring diagram of the relevant pieces... this was supposed to be a five minute tune up not a week long nightmare.

G1, 2 on the fuse panel leads straight to coilpack power, or at least does on a mk3 vr.

Brian^ helped me figure out that i fried it by hooking up grounds wrong was a huge pita, also after pulling and tucking my wire harness I had the same problem ended up getting frustrated shook the S*** out of the main connection in the bay and all is well
