Thread: The show and judges did a good job!

Vortexers - I really do think that the show at Waterfest was pretty good. Lot's of cars, lot's of show classes, and lot's of people just like you and I working really hard to clean, prep, and finish their cars. It's easy to complain that "it's not what it used to be", or "it's the same old cars", or "too many air bags", or "too many of this type of wheel", or "not enough MK1s", etc. But really? If you're spending your time complaining you're probably missing out on seeing the what the shows really bring to the table. So next time at Waterfest or any other VW show, just relax and enjoy walking around, looking at the cars, and talking to the owners, Even if their cars aren't over-the-top super modified, it doesn't mean that they didn't put a lot of time and effort into their VW. Give them a compliment. Even a simple "nice car" could go a long way.

I've never judged, but I can see that it is not an easy job. It's very under-appreciated, you're on your feet all day, and you're probably getting a nasty sunburn. But the judges that I observed at Waterfest seemed to be taking their time and and really putting in the effort to try their best to get it right based upon the official and published criteria.

It's important that we take the time to enjoy our VW shows. They may not last forever.

    Anyone else agree?

i felt that this was the worst judging i have ever witnessed, and i finished in first. the guys who did my class had no clue about anything told to them. had to explain what a cup kit was, i mean really last year i thought was better, and it seems like its getting worse every year.

Thanks. This is the first positive thread about judging I have seen in 12+ years of judging this show (and 2 other national shows)

Then, what I need you to do, is show up and be a judge. Bear in mind you will miss ALL of the stuff on Sunday, 90+ minutes on Saturday, and have to get up at 4:30 or so, which means no late night drunk fest on Saturday.

Your reward? Scorn, abuse, and the feeling that no matter how hard you and the other judges try, you won't get it 100% right, and those that are slighted will "poison the waters" at every other show they attend. And a small amount of money for 9+ hours in the hot sun. (and some free water and gatorade).

PM me if you want to help make things better, or just continue to complain on the internet.

My take on last year? I thought we had some of the youngest judges ever, but without exception they GENUINELY tried to get it right in every class they judged.

Want to know who I am? Look in any picture of the judges. I am the fat bald one. Do I get it right 100% of the time? Probably not, but at least I am trying, instead of just complaining on the sidelines.
