Is it common for these fuel pumps to go out with the 2.0T FSI motor?

The only common issue I know of is the thrust sensor on the high pressure fuel pump (mounted on the engine) going bad, which causes the in-tank pump to run at 100% duty cycle and overheat, eventually causing fuel cuts during extended driving and sometimes killing the pump entirely. I had to replace my thrust sensor and in-tank pump because of this exact scenario. I believe there has been a warranty extension issued for the low pressure sensor failure, so you might check into that.

I wish paid $115 to the dealer becaue I thought it would be cam follower related. The repair they wanted to perform was for the module and rear pump...
