i have a 1999 golf gti vr6, i just found a water puddle on my passenger floor. recently had the floor panels fix because they were rusting out. i tracked the water all the way up to the blower motor vent right underneath the passenger side of the windshield. i found some rust build up around the vent hole. now my question is... instead of going to a body shop, what would a quick fix be to stop that leak? i thought about cleaning out the rust and silicone a cut out piece of sheet metal to the clean surface. any other ideas would be great, keep in mind i do not have a welder. although i do have acetylene torches with braising sticks.

most of the leaks in that area are from the fresh air box sealing to the firewall. a foam rubber gasket. no need to remove the box, but loosening all thew bolts and sliding a new one usually fixes it. Either that leak or the sunroof drains are clogged or pinched.
