I just rec'd. a "kit" in the mail that came from VW. A yellow sticker for the fueling openig warning of low sulfer fuel only. I use the Gulf since it has a good feel and 45 cetane where most offer 40.
Do any of you use a fuel additive? I know VW warns against using this highly BUT then they actually sell one called Stanodyne. It seems a bit contradictory.
Do any of you use any of these products at all? On a trip since you don't know what you're getting or all the time?
Been using 4oz of DieselKleen since day one and 40,000k + later the car is going strong with zero issues. Good power, engine is smoother and a tad more quieter as well. I'm getting about 47mpg average on my commutes.

You went to great lengths as I recall with your car. Every little to large modification there seemed to be! I was really impressed the way you tracked it and all. What's the deal with the info. I just got indicating that nothing extra, NOT even biofuel should be used in these TDIs?
I'm a little taken back that they say nothing else but low sulfur diesel but then sell stanodyne. Have you any info. about this including the biodiesel/stanodyne?
Thanx - Gonna have to see what you've done to your car since last year -
Up to 5% BioDiesel is fine as per VW specs. Up to 10% is likely OK if you do more frequent oil changes (e.g., have oil analysis done and likely need to change every 5,000 miles or so, since BioDiesel condenses on the cylinder walls, gets scraped into the engine oil, and dilutes it). An even higher percentage of BioDiesel is likely detrimental to the fuel pump and injectors, due to its much higher viscosity.
I don't know of any connection between Stanadyne and VW.
I don't know of any benefit of additives to CR TDI engines other than a few percent (1-2%) BioDiesel to guarantee sufficient lubricity.
Diesel should be winterized from the refinery where and when applicable.
