I dropped my girlfriend off at her work today after her lunch break. As a male co-worker of hers walked by my Scirocco in the parking lot, he complimented me on my "nice Datsun that is in good shape."

I frequently have people mistake my Scirocco for a Corrado, and of course we've all heard the Delorean thing; but a Datsun? That's a new one.

Not ranting, I just thought it was funny. Anyone else on here have their Scirocco mistaken for something other than a VW?

When I had my red Mk1 I got the Alfa Romeo comment once or twice....
Scirocco inventory currently at 1% and holding.

    That's funny!
My insurance company, Progressive, lists my other VW as "1969 Volkswgon Beattle"
I guess as long as they know what it is, they really don't care about proper spelling

Dodge Charger. Which I understand... Sort of.
The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

Most of you are not old enough to remember that a seminal car was introduced in late 74...it was called Scirocco.
In the ensuing 5-7 years the following cars were almost exact copies....to the point that VW sued Chrysler for copying the Rabbit. And Won.

    Honda Accord 1st gen
    Toyota Supra 2nd gen
    Isuzu Impulse (giugiaro)
    Toyota Corolla lift back
    Plymouth Tc-3
Dodge Charger.....tho they made a cool pick-up that VW Should have copied....

    Are all Scirocco copies.

people STILL confuse them. This is possibly why (if you notice) that the VW logos are now the size of PIE PLATES!

Out of all those cars above that were copies.. I would take Datsuns as a complement! I too have got that.. wait, uh what is that?

It's funny I think and I don't mind. But talking about Datsuns.. I have been catching myself looking at early 280z's.

    New project sometime soon???

    i wonder whats more strange

some one calling your car (one of the above references)

or some one actually knowing what a scirocco is

I'm usually shocked when i run into some one who knows it is a scirocco hahaha

i dont know, i had quite a few "i used to have one of those" stories, and a couple "wtf is that"s but i do not recall any misidentifications.

the other car, however, is quite a different story. usually mistaken for a fiesta (though the fiesta that the fes could possibly look like was never sold in north america to my knowledge) it still gets far more wtf's than not
...but then again, i do drive a festiva

Oh no don't get me wrong, I like them too. Especially those "hard-to-find-for-less-than-ten-grand-510 models", lol

It was the first time I've ever had anyone mistake my German car for a Japanese car, and he was walking right by it!

I had somebody excitedly ask, "wow, what is that?". I'm like, 1977 VW Scirocco. Which then drew a disinterested, "oh..."
