Are you seriously bitching about different sized clamp bolts?
OMG, I need more than 1 tool to work on my car.
<-- signs out, grabs beer and heads to garage.
So I ordered my evoms via blue water and got it on sale, big thanks to them.
What I'm not impressed with is the hardware that came with the intake and how much flex is in the heat shield.
First off, all of the hose clamps have different size screws and while they all can use a flat head screwdriver its easier to use a socket and there all different sizes, the bolts on the heat shield are 11mm which sucks cause everything on our cars is 10 mm.
It fits perfect and sounds good, just not impressed with the little details
Also it was drop shipped from evoms so it's not a reboxed unit
I was thinking the same thing... But unfort i can has no beer
Considering when i pulled my motor, nothing was the same size... that never phased me
comparing pulling an engine and installing an intake is a little different.
It's like getting an exhaust and when you go to install it there are all different size bolts to screw it on.
I just figured it's stupidly expensive so why would it not come with matching hardware???
Yeah some of the hardware seems a bit cheap but I really don't think its so expensive as to warrant a complaint thread.
Maybe $50.00 bucks for a quality big filter, $10.00 for msc hardware, $10.00 for silicone, another $50.00 for the nice velocity stack. I think you could fab a heat shield for $25.00 out of metal if you know how to weld. If you figure in R&D, it's really not that bad.
my point was that not everything is going to be to ur liking.. since i had to buy all these special sized sockets to complete the job.
i had an Evoms intake on my Mk5 GTI, that too had diff size hardware for the heatshield and the hose clamps.. IDk, its the better of the intakes on the market so hope ya like it.
I've had one of these in place for a few years.
YEAH a bit pricey, but remember: A lot of the price (of anything) is for development of the item.
I thought the construction of the heat shield was a little flimsy as well, but then one of the guys at Induktion (where I got it) told me that it's not FLIMSY, it's FLEXIBLE. As in to give as much of a seal against the inside of the fender as possible, given that it likely won't fit in there exactly the same way on every car. Makes sense.
Can't comment on hardware inconsistency. I just don't remember finding that. Doesn't mean I didn't, but I had other ish to focus on during my installation. Mostly: how to cut off a piece of the PO's EIP CAI that I re-used, and how big a piece, etc. As in, the OEM tubing from MAF to TB was no longer there. So I didn't have much choice. Thus there was more for me to fork with during this installation than what's likely the norm.
Un-dis-irregardless, from what I was able to gather before making the change, I still think the EVOMS unit is the one to go with.
It is not I who am crazy...
It is I who am MAD!
