I have a 1990 Jetta Gli 16v. I recently have found that I need to move on from this daily driver/project. It has the 2.0 block with the 1.8 head. It is in pretty good shape but a recent timing belt incident has put me in a position where I need to sell the car. It does run, no damage to the head after the timing belt was replaced. Service this year includes, new (yes new) transmission, clutch, and cable, shifter bushings, brake pads, rear main seal, crank seal, balance shaft seal, and the above mentioned timing belt. It also has had both axles and ball joints.
Update!!!
Car is now running and idling fine!
Also over this year it has been prepped for paint and is in full primer. I have a fresh front bumper and trunk spoiler for the car, otherwise it is in good shape. I have also installed smoked e-codes. It currently rides on 17" Konig Imagine, that need paint, with h&r springs, koni(f), oem(r) shocks, and mk3 complete strut mounts.
A few items I know need to be addressed. The oil pan had an impact when I jumped a curb and the pan is slightly bent on the lip so the new gasket I installed was still leaking. I add a quart about every 2-3 weeks. The distributer seal and valve cover gasket need replaced. I have new control arms because I think one is bent a little on the passenger side from the same curb I mentioned before.
I have more that could probably be listed, but if I get some interest I am more than happy to talk and provide anything you need.
I have spent well over 2k just in the last year, but am looking for $1,250. I have seen many non running cars go for some good money so I think its a fair price considering you can actually drive the car away.
Thanks

what do you mean you put a 1.8 head? 1.8 16v or 1.8 8v

1.8 16 v head on the 2.0 16v block is old school, you know when there were no VR motors to swap in. It was never proven to give any more power. I just wanted to make sure i was accurate in my description of the vehicle.

Started to remove trim to paint. If someone is interested while it is still at a low price please let me know.

Lots of interest, lets get this sold! Make offers before I paint

Dude, I know how to read a flow test. Flow wasn't the issue, it was the lack of substantial gains that never made it a popular swap. You want me to supply you with the data? This was told to me by an engine builder with over 20 yrs just in VW, and has seen and driven this car.
Stay off my for sale thread. This isnt the area for discussing your opinions. If you aren't making an offer keep it moving.

DUDE.. your friend is an ásshat
I've been building these damned engines for almost 20 yrs myself, and its no myth that the 1.8 head makes more power. It is not forum hearsay whatsoever.
There are plenty of "experienced" engine builders that don't know their áss from a hole in the ground.
That said; I've long since moved onto 1.8t's.
Nice car GLWS![]()

Maybe I should help you to understand something. I could care less what your opinion is on this matter. Nor will I let you disrespect a friend, and very well respected businessman in the VW community. To be doing anything for 20 years shows your age. And quite frankly I'm dissapointed.
This is a for sale thread. When I start a discussion topic I will be sure to let you know.
