The time has come to sell off some of my rare OEM parts. I hate to do it, especially since I never got to see it installed in my car, but I'm selling my North American R32 instrument cluster. I bought this about 2 years ago from a fellow Vortexer out in California who was parting out an R32. It has the MFA screen, so in the top third of the screen it shows fuel economy (instantaneous and average), average speed, distance traveled, elapsed time, and (when enabled) distance remaining until the tank is empty. In addition, there are two separate sets of data. The first set of data resets after your car has been turned off for about two hours. The second set will continue to accumulate miles, time, etc., until you reset it manually or you reach 9999 miles or 99 hours. You toggle between the two sets with a button on the wiper stalk. (not included, but easily sourced online)
In the middle third of the screen, it shows the outside temperature, as read by the outside temperature sensor behind the driver’s side front bumper grille. If the cluster is installed in an automatic or tiptronic, the bottom third of the screen will show the gear the car is in.
When I bought this cluster about 2 years ago I had it shipped to Nihilator (Check the 2nd link), to have him set it to "new" mode (meaning it has 0 miles on it) in order to make the adaptation process easier. If you're going to install this into an IMMO-III car (2002+) then you just need the SKC from your current cluster (for which you would need VagTacho or someone who has the appropriate program to retrieve it) and a licensed copy of VagCom. Here's a link to RossTech's site that explains about the Immobilizer and how to swap clusters:http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer
For those looking to upgrade to this cluster, please don't ask me a bunch of questions about how you can make this work, what else will I need, does it come with everything needed, etc. Just click the link to find out all you need to know:http://forums.thecarlounge.net/showt...UMENT CLUSTERS
**UPDATE 11-9: I recently came across old e-mails to/from Nihilator (G-mail backups from an old Hotmail account, tons to sift through), and in them he explains that the center LCD screen is faded and the light output in not very good. He mentions that he had performed a light output test on the cluster, testing horizontal and vertical lines of the center screen and he said it wasn't very bright and would be hard to read in warm weather, slightly better in cold weather. However, after MUCH research, I have found the following online vendor (Rick@lcdautotech) http://lcdautotech.com/ to take care of the repair. I've spoken with Rick and he strikes me as a straight shooter that knows what he's doing. He removes/replaces the original lcd screens with an OEM quality (not chinese Ebay crap) center lcd screen that is less prone to having this problem occur (I won't say resistant because I don't honestly know that). Anybody that has either a half-size MFA screen or full size FIS cluster that is fading out on them or giving them headaches, I would recommend checking them out
The cluster WAS removed from a California R32, and from my research the cars that suffer from the faded screens tend to have lived most their lives in warmer climates. Apparently the contacts on the back of the ribbon cable for the center screen get fried and cause the pixelation/missing lines/faded screen. It's also a common problem on the full size Audi screens (my brother's A4 for example). I realize that the repair costs around $100-$150, or more depending on where you choose to get it done, so I am a little more flexible on the price than I was before.***
I'm asking $225/shipped/Paypal'd or best reasonable offer. Lowballers will still be ignored, as will questions that have already been answered in the thread. Please use the links I have provided to learn a little about the instrument clusters, programs, parts, and labor associated with performing a swap like this before contacting me. If you have additional questions, would like more pictures or want to discuss price then send me a private message and I will respond quickly. For those that are serious about buying I will exchange more information about the repairs, a D.I.Y. alternative and the websites I have found that can do the repair. Check my signature for some other parts I'm selling as well, as I will do package deals and still have a few parts lying around from recent swaps. Thanks for looking.
