Look up how to do LED tails on the MKVs. That might help a little.

Hey everyone.
I bought the LED tails from the hybrid. I'm currently in NY and my TSI (GLI to the american folk) is in 5k miles away Brazil. I'm pretty sure these aren't going to be just "plug & play". They did come with some adapters, but I have a feeling I'm going to need something to keep the bulb-out warnings away.
Any thoughts on what I should stock up on while I'm here to make sure these will install ok? I already have a VAGCOM, but I don't think that's all it's going to take.
Here's some pics. As a quick note, it looks like VW "cheaped out" and used a standard bulb for the back up lights.

How much those babies set you back if you dont mind me asking? Did you just grab them from your local dealer? Cant wait for these and the new headlights to drop into my GLI

definatly need the adapter. Dont worry about the back up lights, golf has the signal and back-up lights regular bulbs as well.
LED's are mostly for brake lights and city lights.
very excited to see what the installed lights would look like.
Goodluck with your install.

The lights came with these adapters. Could this be all I need?

Well, my car is 5k miles away so I can't try it. Anyone around Middletown, NY around with a GLI want to experiment?![]()

They guy I bought them from on ebay said the four adapters would be all I need.. I'm not so sure about that though. I only have monday to gather the parts I'll need before I go back to brazil, so I'm a bit concerned.
#13
the plugs you have, do they fit the back of the tailights right now?

Yep, perfect fit. I'm thinking I just might have to do a wire swap from the harness in the car.. I'm just worried that it can't be that simple..

like this except with 4 pins.
Its a straight swap but the wires aren't the same plug. You are better off making adapters like this or cutting and soldering the new ones on. I'll get you the P/Ns...
000979025 (old .5 mm wire $9.90)
or
000979025 E (new .5 mm wire $16.50)
OR
000979150 (old 1 mm wire $9.90)
or
000979150 E (new 1 mm wire $16.50)
You will need 16 halves so that's 8 wires.
If you wanted to make adapters you also need:
4x 191972714 ($19.80)
8x 000979129 (old 1 mm wire $8.50)
or
8x 000979129E (new 1 mm wire $11.50)

Either way, it's going to cost you. About $115 with std. 15% discount if you cut and solder. Or $260 if you make adapters.
OR
you could buy the adapters from bold sport and then take them apart for about $100 after shipping to Brazil.

the plugs that came with the lights look like plugs on the right side of that pic from bold sport.
So, if my local VW even has the parts.. the best route would be to get 8 000979025, right?
Or 8x 000979129E to make adapters... I guess I should try both the old and new P/N depending on what they have in stock tomorrow morning..

Let me clarify here so I don't go crazy..
I need 8 of any of these (mix & match possible i guess depending on stock at the dealer):
000979025 (old .5 mm wire $9.90)
000979025 E (new .5 mm wire $16.50)
000979150 (old 1 mm wire $9.90)
000979150 E (new 1 mm wire $16.50)
if I want to make adapters I need clarification here:
4x 191972714 ($19.80)
8x 000979129 (old 1 mm wire $8.50)
(total 12?)
or
8x 000979129E (new 1 mm wire $11.50)
Thanks

I think I should point out again, that my jetta is the Euro spec highline, so I have 4 wires (amber turn signals) that will be going to 3 wires for these new LED tails..
#22
#23
The plugs directly on the LED tail lights have only 3 pins, there's no pin where the "fourth" would be.
#24
#25
#26
The plugs they sent have 4 locations for pins, or pin holes... the actual lights themselves only have 3 pins. Pics coming.

Another comment, I went o 3 VW dealers in NY and none of them had any of the parts in your list, so I have nothing..![]()

I found a little time to see how much work this would take.
Obviously not plug and play. Is it possible for me to take the wires out of the original harness and put them in the new adapters?
This is the picture of the original harness in the car for the trunk lid lights next to the adapters that came with the LED tails.

This is the LED version.

Honeslty I think you need to get the harness. Pay the 100$ and get a proper harness. That way you are not messing up with your wiring.
As for VCDS modification, you will need to install the lights first and see if you get a bulb out. Also start looking for the MK6 Golf LED tail light mod, you might learn some stuff from those guys.
