Finally got everything working perfectly. It required code 53 and byte 18. No errors and all lights working as they should.

I just purchased a set of the tails off oemvagparts now I need to figure out how to wire them up like flipside99

Success! Flipside's byte 18 coding (53) works perfectly if all you add are the led tails and have an 086 CECM. Thanks to flipside and JETTA BRAZIL's excellent writeup on his blog. Made for a super simple install. Pics incoming.

Spoke too soon. After looking carefully, it seems my brake lights are a little dim. the turn signals are fine (nice and bright). Will experiment with more coding. Mine does not have rear fog from the factory so that might explain why the code does not work for me. With my default 00, I only got errors for left and right tail light. None for brake or turn signals. Code 53 gives no errors but not enough brightness.
#91
Well.. we might be using the wrong code, although I think the brightness is fine... we're most certainly wired wrong.
This appears to be the only video so far of what the LED tails are supposed to look like from the factory. (Go to 1:55)
I can't be sure without seeing the turn signals on, but it appears to be much closer to OEM VAG PARTS who posted this before:
Now this is the confusing part.. The outer lights only have 3 pins in the plug. According to the bottom video there are 3 separate lights (Parking, brake and signal) which would mean 4 pins (1 for each light plug ground)..So either there's 2 versions of these lights floating around or mine are broken.

I'm guessing there is a US version and a EU version. VW has been moving to using all red brake/running/directional lights so the EU version likely has a turn signal element for amber turn signals that is missing from the US version.
Opinion plug: I think red turn signals looks like ass. Especially where they use a single bulb/element for both. Looks cheap and looks like a copout to be cheap.
#93
I agree, but.. The Hybrid is only for the NAM market, so why would there be 2 versions of the tail lights?
#95
I believe they are beggining to offer these as options in the EU. So thats probably why. I havent had time to experiment any further but I do think we are wired right because that is how the stock lights work and that is how similar lights on Golf and EOS work as well.

The turn signals are where I told you they were, in the clear lens on the outer lamps just like the Passat has.

While I thought that was the case from the mexican's video, there's no wire for them.

As you can see in this picture from earlier in the thread, only 3 pins.. ground, parking/brake, signal, there would need to be a 4th pin for the signals to be in the clear part.

Right but three wires doent mean three bulbs, as I think they multipurposed one wire. Were you ever able to take that thing apart? It should be possible as there is a light bulb in there in some set of the LED tails as the parts list shows it.

ok, I'm tearing this bitch apart after lunch.. It's driving me nuts.
