I know this this has been mentioned before somewhere and would like someone form VW to answer my concern if possible.

The scenario is that if the care sits for hours after a hand wash or rain, once I drive off, I can see that a significant amount of water still drains from the car. This doesn't really bother me this time of year, but once winter comes, I'd like to know where this water is trapped. Is there any possibility of damage from a hard freeze where this water is trapped. Any thoughts?

Hmm... where exactly do you see the water coming from? There are drains for the sunroof, I know as well a drain at the bottom of the windshield. I know that piece holds water, and it might be moving as you're driving off. I'm not sure if there are any drains elsewhere tho. But I do know the mirrors hold water and after washing my car I noticed water would be coming out even after I dried it off.

I'm not worried about it as long as these areas that hold water aren't subject to hard freeze damage, but I've never owned a car that holds so much water after a rain or wash.

Well I survived the past winter without any problem. So yeah I wouldn't worry either.
