I have a 98 jetta 2.0 that starts right up but when you take off above 2000 rpm it falls flat if you let off the gas it will go until it reaches 2-3000 rpm, it has a fault code 17988 throttle actuator, 16487, mass air flow, 16885, speed sensor..

Clean the throttle body and perform adaptation with VCDS.

Check the MAF. Do you have vag-com? If only a generic scan tool, see if it runs better with the MAF unplugged. Drive with it unplugged for diagnostic purposes only, DO NOT leave it unplugged.

Does the speedometer work? 16885 relates to the vehicle speed sensor (speedometer sensor) and has nothing to do with performance.

    Any other faults?
