Just collect PSA's and swap 'em out every 6 months or so.

Seriously, about the only real option I'd know of would be to use a Quattro drivetrain. Might be possible to block off the driveshaft and just use it as a FWD gearbox...

Don't be a biznatch! Keep the fox.

Are the 4000s or a quantumTD tranny's stronger? I know they have more ideal gearing(in my mind anyway)

What were the problems with using a FWD B5 tranny? I know the mount location is different, but it shouldn't be too hard to fabricate something. You might need to hammer out the tunnel a bit to fit it.

It's a hydraulic setup, so you'd need to figure that out. Custom axles. Modified linkage maybe.

But that should handle 300whp fine I imagine.

b5 as in b5 passat/audi a4. There was a thread about it one time but I can't find it.

As far as I know both these transmissions won't bolt up to your engine, so unless you want to get into having a custom adapter plate made and all the issues that come with it, the B5 transmission still seems like a better option! After all, custom mount, massaging the tunnel and adapting a hydraulic clutch pedal isn't that much work considering how far you've gone on the motor (I know)

several years ago I asked about the audi a4 FWD tranny. Some years they came as a cable models and was told by several it couldnt work. I will try to did up those emails why they told me no. Short of custom axles and mounts, I didnt see why but was told it was way more to it than that. My reason for trying is they are pretty cheap now, proven to hold power, and have good aftermarket and you can easily find LSDs for them (no more looking to Brazil).

IDK if it will or will not work but I do know that the Audi 5000 transmission is LEGIT. I drove one of those like you wouldnt belive up and down mount baldy road for months and the transmission handled like a dream

It won't, the mountings for the 5 banger are different than the 4. The only cross-over I know of is the 88/89 Audi 80 quattro trans (don't remember code) that has mountings for both 4 and 5 cyl.

The 9Q is a pretty stout transmission though for FWD, they used it on the turbo D cars and the NA diesel cars with AC.

I have a Audi 4000 Transmission/Motor sitting in my garage.

That being said, why don't you find a 4speed and put that in there. From what I've seen/read they are a lot stronger, and with 300+Whp it might be nicer since you'll be sitting in boost a lot longer.

      Other options to consider:

Get a weaker clutch or get weaker tires... This way when something needs to break it isn't your gears it's something that is a friction based material.
