Did a search and didn't see anything on this. My apologies if it's a repost.

http://jalopnik.com/5933859/exclusiv...gets-groceriesA Fisker Karma hybrid-electric luxury sedan set itself on fire earlier this evening as the owner went to purchase groceries, Jalopnik has exclusively learned. The cause of the fire is unknown but photos show extensive damage to the front left quadrant of the car.
This incident, which occurred in Woodside, California, is the second fire for the government-financed Fisker this summer. In May, a brand new Fisker was blamed for a house fire in Houston.
According to the Woodside Fire Department, the owner of the vehicle went into a store to get some groceries and came out to discover smoke pouring out of the vehicle. The owner then called the manufacturer who told him to call 911, which he did.
By the time fire crews arrived the front of the vehicle was mostly destroyed, although no one was hurt in the incident. Kyle Fehr, a Jalopnik reader who witnessed the aftermath, says the owner seemed upset.

If you can't measure it, you can't understand it; if you can't understand it, you can't control it.

This self-igniting car is perfect for all sorts of insurance scams.

The owner called Fisker instead of the fire department? I assume the owner said "my money back, I want it".

Wow, it was a Jalopnik exclusive? Local news didn't report it? Owner didn't update his Facebook status to 'Crap, my Fisker Karma luxury hybrid is on fire!!'? He didn't text his wife 'Um, honey? I won't be back with the gazpacho makings for a little bit, I'm having car problems.....'?
Oh, and great call calling Fisker first. That makes a TON of sense.

The owner was probably hoping it would burn to the ground at that point.

Fisker engineers, working with independent investigators from Pacific Rim Investigative Group, have begun preliminary examination and testing on the Karma involved in a fire in Woodside, California Friday, August 10.
Evidence revealed thus far supports the fact that the ignition source was not the Lithium-ion battery pack, new technology components or unique exhaust routing.
The area of origin for the fire was determined to be outside the engine compartment. There was no damage to the passenger compartment and there were no injuries.
Continued investigative efforts will be primarily focused within the specific area of origin, located forward of the driver's side front tire.
Further details will be announced after a full report is completed.

Eat your heart out Fisker, I already saw BMW 5 Series start on fire all by itself too this year, and it was parked only 20 yards from my home.

Must have had a Volt parked next to it.

I feel like this car has just been a huge bust. It's had to have had one of the worst new-model roll-outs in history.

I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Fisker: Hello?
Idiot: Yeah, uh.. I have a question. Is my Karma supposed to light Itself on fire?
Fisker: Let me get my supervisor for you, sir.
Idiot: *listening to waiting music* *car is burning down*
Fisker Supervisor: What is your problem, sir?
Idiot: Yeah, my car is on fire. The left front panel. Do you think I can bring it in after I get groceries?
Fisker:...Sir, if your car is on fire you should call 911 and report the emergency.
Idiot: But I need my groceries!
Fisker: Well, it is made of high quality material. You can probably let it burn while you shop.
Idiot: Okay, I'll call 911 when I'm done. Thanks!

Well you know what they say, the Fisker Karma looked cool but is a maintenance nightmare and a death trap. Oh, and a lot caught on fire.

Ohhh TCL historians where art thou?
I wonder what kind of teething pains the ICE had when it was first trying to get traction after having beat out EV and steam? Larry?
Obviously electrification of autos does not need issues like this right now.
