Thread: ABA turbo on short tranny

  1. 08-12-2012 08:39 PM #1
I'm planning on turbocharging my MK2. As it is now :

-Engine : ABA with 276 cam, intake, exhaust, Megasquirt 1 v3.0

    -Transmission: 02A CRU (3.300 1.944 1.308 0.971 0.756 4.24)

I'm planning on adding a little Garrett T3 series 60 trim turbo .48 exhaust side at around 8-10 psi (looking for around 200hp / 200 lb-ft torque)

My question is : Since my transmission has very short ratios, is it going to be unpleasant to drive ? I'm scared i'll always be at the redline to quickly..? Anyone has ever tried such a setup?

I'm not really sure if I understand the tranny you're talking about, as a .75 fifth seems pretty tall to me, but I'm running an aba turbo in my mk1 with an 020 ACD tranny.

    (3.67 final drive, 3.45 2.12 1.44 1.13 0.89)

I think its super fun around town. In the rain I can spin all five gears, its hilarious. On the highway its a joke, but it seems you'll be okay with the fifth you have. If that helps?

Thanks for your answer. You're right, some gears seems to be quite long. But my final drive is 4.24 which results is quite short ratios.

I was more wondering about the 3rd and 4th gear ..
