I feel stupid for having to ask this.
I installed an intake that a friend gave me for free because I'm curious if it gets better MPGs like he claimed it did on his GTI.
I took the MAF out of my stock airbox not paying attention to which side is up. Is there is a correct side up, or does it really not matter?

yes it matters.... the opening in the MAF is supposed to face to the right or in the direction of where the air comes from in the intake.

thanks, I guessed correctly. Why didn't they key the stupid thing so you can't get it wrong?

1 day review on intake:
- makes a little more noise, but not as much as expected.
- got 1-2 mpg better than my normal commute, but don't trust gain to be more than luck, time will tell
- spools maybe a tad faster, but it's honestly hard to tell on such a small turbo
- doesn't really feel any faster in a 4th gear pull
- glad to get rid of the stupid engine cover

now that I have a few hundred miles with the intake it does appear to have improved gas mileage. Most recently, I did a bunch of mixed driving that would have normally put me at 24mpg and I got 27. Highway was up from 28 to 29 on average. City is unchanged.
