Thread: Fog lights - fuse 36...

  1. 08-14-2012 09:39 AM #1
FUSE 36 exists on my car, that does not have fogs from factory...

I've done a ton of searching and want to wire my fog lights (inside headlights) with Euro Switch as OEM as possible...it seems to me like I should be using FUSE 36 circuit...but haven't found anyone doing it this way...can you explain why? The aftermarket kits get power from the battery. Other ways of wiring use a 'add-a-circuit' or VW repair wire on an empty fuse slot....anyone know anything about this FUSE #36 and why it already seems partially wired?

    Answered my own question
    http://mit.edu/dennis/www/vw/switch.html

Fuse 36 gives power to pin 2(xr) in the headlight switch...which powers pin 8(NL) which switches the fog light relay(needs to be added)

So...there is not only a fuse for the fog light switch (pre wired by VW) but there will also be a fuse for the POWER wire to the relay

    GOT it -

I assume that we are talking about a MkIV VW here.

Well - NO. Pin 8 (NL) provides power to the fog lights. You don't need to add a relay. The stock relay just turns off the fog lights when the high beams are on. The stock relay coil gets power from fuse 3 - not from fuse 36.
