Ok. I have a 2004 Passat GLS 4 Motion. I have fog lights, I just want to add a euro switch. I seem to see a lot of posts about making sure you get a good one with the better circuit boards and all that fun stuf. Problem is, its all outdated material.

SO I would like to know...which manufacturer out there today is the best switch to get and does anyone know where to get it?

    Thanks!

Mine came from e-bay. It's oem and I paid $20.00 shipped for it about a year ago.

    It's still working properly

    I bought mine from GermanAutoParts.com

It has been installed for about 3 years now with absolutely no problems.

They ship out of NY so you would probably receive it the day after ordering.

One other thing I will mention...

I think this is just needed for the b5.5 but maybe someone can clarify.

If you are interested in disabling your day time running lights giving you the ability to just run city lights or none at all there is one more trick for the B5.5.

Most Mk4's/b5's you just need to bend the tfl pin on the back of the headlight switch but that doesnt work for the b5.5. You need to remove the fusebox cover on the side of the dashboard and pull the 173 relay out to get the full functionality of the euroswitch.

    I hope this helps

I think he meant to type, remove the 173 relay from the relay panel.

^^ I think you mean relay 173, do not pull any fuses or you will have problems, the relay is behind the drivers dash by way of access to the fuse panel.

The euroswitch gives you full control of your headlights, fog lights and city lights.

-You can have them completely turned off
-You can run just the city lights
-you can run just city lights and headlights
-you can run city lights, headlights and fog lights
-You also have the ability to control a rear fog if you have it or install it.

don't bend any pins... just pull relay 173.

the euroswitch will give you this:

    All Off (no drl)
    1st click (clockwise): city/parking lights
    1st click + 1st pull out: city/parking lights + fogs
    2nd click: city/parking + low beams
    2nd click + 1st pull out: city/parking + low beams + fogs

if you have rear fogs (most do not, as it was more common in europe), then in any position that you can make the 1st pull for fogs, you can do a 2nd pull for rear fogs.

the oem switch does not allow fogs to be activated without having the low beams on too.

with the drl relay pulled, i run my city/parking lights + fogs as my drls when needed.

Correct. The DRL's can be disabled without touching the stock switch. Some people choose to upgrade the switch in addition to killing the DRL's (more options for light control). Two different modifications to the same system.

so then the point of the euro switch is no DLR's and parking lights? and what is (more options for light control)

i see a lot of them on ebay from china. im assuming its the same switch.

and if you get the euro switch do you still need to remove the relay?

Yes, you can then control whether you want to turn just your parking lights on or not... plus gives you the option to run rear fog if you want to do the wiring.

No, they are knock offs... but they'll probably work... for a little while at least. For $50 for a geniune OEM one, it's not gonna break the bank.

Well, its good to see some conversation on this. So the ones on Ebay from China are garbage. So the question still are, where do you get the OEM ones? Who makes the OEM ones?

guys, the switch also allows the fogs to be run with just the parking lights. i don't think the stock switch allows this. at least on my 01.5, i had to have the low beams on before i could pull the switch out for fogs.

for me, i like this option so that i can have fogs on as my "drl" without having to run the lows at all.

I got mine from ECS. It's not labeled as VW/Audi, it's an "OES" brand, but it has a lifetime warranty and mine has never had an issue in the past 2 years i've had it.

Actual, supplied-by-VW and brought in from europe switches are still very expensive - I've seen prices in the $180 - $200 range. (Try pricing a USA spec switch at the VW dealer). People selling cheaper ones are pretty cagey about what they're selling. So, all you can do is pick a reliable vendor and go on faith. I think the ECS suggestion is a good one.
