Downpipes, intakes, and certain intercoolers round off a short list of auto parts I have/would buy off ebay.

I've been down this road before and this is what is going to happen....

Will buy cheap items to save some cash and at the end will need to buy the "real stuff", so for save some pennys will lose some dollars.

I'd say the Downpipe's, Turbo Blankets, and FMIC Piping kits are worth it. Rest is kinda of a bandaid fixes.

I believe I read a thread where someone used that tub-mani from ebay on their K04 build and it cracked shortly after. I'll see if I can find it.

But, the FT tub-mani that is an option for the F23 should work on an OE 225 turbo.

ebay apexi turbo timers? they do their job at least right?

Raceland downpipes are awesome for the price. The welds are fine and after 2 years it looks and acts like new. Just buy a gasket kit from ECS. It's essentially the same product as EBAY sells.

and back to manifolds, would ceramic coating or even titanium nitride coating work to help prevent heat cycling?

i gotta guy who can coat small things easily.

and im guessing 321 brushed stainless is crapp metal

Ebay manifolds are a big no-no!

Once you actually change a manifold yourself, you wont understand that you DO NOT want to have to be messing around back there if you dont have to.

Not worth the trouble at all.

Only thing I have personally used are the higher quality turbo blankets (heat temps and paint in engine bay will thank you) & higher quality exhaust wraps (ex: dei or any volcanic impregnated type). Other than that, I would save my $$$ for high quality parts. Research on the tex what peeps have used and rave about. I have seen ebay crap blow up in cars going for more than stock ratings and I have also witnessed ebay crap remain intact on stock cars.

well i bought a Relentless, or SS autochrome downpipe because the $500 42 drafts one didn't look any special, the down pipe metal does feel cheap but the welds look solid. I planned on exhaust wrapping it though.

the only ebay things i may ever consider is intercooler piping silicone couplers, piping(if i couldnt do this myself),velocity stacks, maybe a blanket as tom suggested if i ever felt the need, maybe a muffler that had good reviews

I just got done reading the ebay thread, where everyone tried a Big turbo kit for under a 1000. My car looks faster then all of there videos and its only chipped

    ya,
dont get ebay china silicone stuff. Its garbage and most does not fit or is improper size.
I bought that $68 boost hose kit:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-GOLF-JETT...5f380b&vxp=mtr

The fist kit took 3 weeks to get (yes 3) and it was for a passat 1.8t.
The next kit took 2 weeks to get.
2 of the hoses did not physically fit over the stock pipes (90 hose and lower intercooler hose)
the n75 hose was too small inner diameter causing boost surge at full boost
the DV hose is ok, but I think it leaks now
the TB hose fit pretty good but its way thin compared to Forge kits.

I have replaced every hose from that kit with Forge ones minus the TB hose.
the car is on an inclined driveway and up on jack stands in the front only
VW's don't leak oil, they just mark their territory!

I purchased a Log style hi flow K03/k04 manifold off ebay fits well.. I ground down acouple nubs so the manifold sits flush but other than that its good... basicallly this.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/vw-vag-golf-...8cb9aa&vxp=mtr

i purchased this and it only lasted me 10 miles... I primed the turbo before turning it on and I filled the coolant up started smoking had to tear it back out and put the old one in... http://www.ebay.com/itm/KO4-K04-001-...ht_4312wt_1397

I ran into the same issue with that manifold. Stupid that they can't just make it right so that you don't have to machine every one to get it to sit flush.

yup Im pretty sure it was cheaper than the one I linked and that ones only 170...

there was one bolt that was tough to get I just used a standard open end wrench... now when I put it on it was on an engine stand so I had alot more flexibility and room

Yep, cheap and effective. Honestly I spent more money having it machined and drilled/tapped for an EGT than I did on the manifold itself

the pipe to the flange looks decently tigged but all the pipe to pipe looks like a stainless mig.. hard to tell since you cant get any real close ups of it.. all thought the one pic as one weld that is raw and un polished. save the money get a real quality piece
