I did the (apparently rather controversial) Ironman US Championship race in NY last Saturday. Amazing experience, I'm still processing it all. I trained with Team in Training as part of their first Iron Team in the NY area (maybe ever, not sure). This was my first Ironman and I made it through honestly much faster than I was expecting:
Swim: 53:26
Bike: 6:56:55
Run: 5:00:10
Overall: 13:16:16
Couple of pics:
Now all I want to do is get faster![]()

Awesome! That is indeed a great accomplishment. The look on your face at the end says it all!![]()

Thanks! I celebrated as hard as I could down that last 100 yards![]()

Big Props for finishing a full Ironman!
What races had you completed prior while you were training up?

Thanks everyone!
This year the only race I did other than the Ironman was the Rev3 70.3 in CT back in June. Prior races include:
2010 NJ Marathon and NYC Tri
2010 Green Lakes 50K
2011 NJ Marathon
2011 Pocono Ironman 70.3
2010 and 2011 Ragnar Relay NY
and a few more small ones in there.
Basically I trained with TNT since January, we had a group of 30 triathletes of varying experience and 3 USAT coaches who did a great job taking us from zero to hero![]()

What was your take on the logistics of the race?? bussing to T1 and the boat ride etc

The logistics were complex but well run, amazingly well done for a first-year event. I live in Manhattan so I woke up at 2AM to take a 3AM bus to a 430AM ferry to get to transition
The start was pretty amazing - from the ferry I was on (we were ferried to the start barge 2.4mi north of swim exit/transition) I got to see the pros start the swim. Overall I liked the race and hope it continues, especially if they can set up the run course to have a more epic finish location, Times Square for example would be AMAZING as a spot to have the finish chute...

Well it seems they have suspended reg. for next year. I would like to see it happen again. I was planning on traveling out next year and volunteering with my buddy out there!

Congrats! I'm going to do my first Half Iron Man in a year or two. Too busy racing bikes and running is the suck.![]()
