I am embarrassed to say that I am having trouble getting the 16mm socket on the #2 spark plug. This is a 1995 Cabrio 2.0L. It is a tight fit but the other three all came out no problem. It seems the cavity for the #2 plug is more narrow than the others. Is this true? Is a special socket required? If so where can I get one. I have searched and cannot find any reference to anyone else having this problem.

In the Bently service manual it says the following... "On all engines use a 5/8 inch spark plug socket with an extension or VW special tool no. 3122B to remove and install the spark plugs"

Here are the spark plug specifics
    ABA (2.0 liter)
    Electrode gap - 0.6 mm (0.024 in)
    Tightening torque - 30 nm (22 ft-lb)
    manufacurer's designation - Bosch (FR 8 DS)

    Hope this helps...

I had a similar issue on a honda that I was working on, it was due to a bad casting on the valve cover ( the plugs went through the valve cover) I ended up grinding down the Spark plug socket to make it thinner, as it was a thin walled socket anywho.
Grounds, Grounds, Grounds Replace them things.
Divorces, Great Coffee, and Electrics, all start with GOOD Grounds.

    Where are my grounds ?

Thanks! 5/8" I never though it would be anything but metric.
